Guideline for marketing consulting rates – help! (6 posts)

  • I’ve got a US based small business client that I’m creating content for. Through our discussions he’s now asked if I can take on a larger role in helping him market his new business. A very exciting prospect for me and right up my alley, but I have no idea of what to pitch my rates at. I know the local value but am not sure it would align with US market rates to just convert using exchange rates.  Would anyone be willing to share a rate guideline or point me in the direction of one?  - happy to PM rather than discuss on a public forum.

  • @cherelleleong If you want to PM me, great. But first you need to have a list of what you will be doing for your client.

If it’s tactical execution, then it will be a lower rate than strategic planning, for instance. How will the administrative details such as list maintenance be handled–again a far lower rate.

  • Thanks Joan @joanmuschampfagnani. I’m waiting for the client to get back to me with an outline, as soon as I have that I’ll definitely be in touch.

  • @cherelleleong

How have you been billing them so far? Hourly? Project-based?

Can you just extrapolate, and maybe suggest a 3-month trial period to make sure that your pricing is in line with their needs?

  • This may not help specifically but is a good principle to keep in mind: Your rate is your announcement to the world of your confidence in your skill set. (borrowed advice) @cherelleleong

  • @deairby, Like!
