Guest Expert Laura Fitton Talks Twitter! (7 posts)

  • Laura Fitton (aka @pistachio — both here and on Twitter) is someone I’ve followed for years.

If you’ve never seen her speak, she’s a great, passionate presenter on all things Twitter, showing everyone the power of the platform. She tells great stories, and has one of her own.

She had few business connections before joining Twitter, but used the platform to make connections, get noticed and grow her consulting business.

She ultimately started OneForty, the Twitter equivalent of the iTunes store. It was later purchased by Hubspot. (You’ve heard of them, right?) ;)

I ran into her at a conference in Boston a month or so back, and immediately asked if she’d answer any Twitter questions y’all have. She’s also a small business expert, so please ask her anything that’s on your mind.

    Thanks, @pistachio!

  • Howdy and good morning everyone. Hope you’ve had a marvelous Thanksgiving, etc. It’s great to be here. Thanks Rich.

  • Hi, Laura!! Can you explain how to design a header for the “new” Twitter design? I am not a graphics person…

  • Hi Anita @anitacohen-williams — jumping in here – we have a thread (or two) that explains this >>> http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/clubs/small-business/forum/topic/twitter-adds-header-image/

  • Thanks @rich-brooks! And welcome  @pistachio. I learned about you in a Dummies pocket guide on Twitter a few years ago :)

My question relates to events. Is there a Twitter tool that I can use to get session feedback? We use Survey Monkey for post-event; however, I’d like some more immediate while it’s still fresh in their minds. Or would it be better to setup mini-surveys for each session and include a link in a tweet? Our conference is over 2 1/2 days with general sessions, workshops and two evening awards programs. Oh, and I will be using special Google Analytics links to track registrations from email and social media next year.

Any other Twitter event tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks! Kristy

  • Hey Guys,

I’m new on here so I apologize if these questions have already been asked in other threads.

    1. I’m brand new to Twitter and looking to increase my Twitter followers. It seems like people on Twitter tend to follow you back if you follow them. Is there a faster way to follow many people on Twitter rather than individually clicking like for each person? Are there better ways to gain followers?

2,  My intention is to use Twitter as more of a content push tool to promote content from my blog, site, fb, pinterest, YouTube, etc. I don’t have the time to be sending 50 tweets a day, communicating and responding on Twitter. Is it worth my time to use it just for content push? Or should I not use Twitter if I don’t plan to spend a lot of time with it?

    Thanks guys!

  • @stephen-kelly Hi Stephen! I don’t know of a way to follow more than one at a time (unless you just click “follow” on your follower list – not recommended). In regards to your second question, there are a myriad of tools to track engagement with your tweets such as Hootsuite, Nutshell Mail, etc. to notify you of mentions and retweets that you need to respond to. Even the Twitter app lets you know. I believe that most how-to articles say about an hour a day to handle your Twitter follow-up. Love to hear others’ thoughts!
