Guest Expert John Dumas Talks Podcasting (9 posts)

  • Before I introduce John Dumas – @entrepreneuronfire — I just wanted to say a word about podcasting.

It had seemed to me a year ago that podcasting was dead. Even at BlogWorld, podcasters were feeling ignored. Fast forward six months, and suddenly every Internet Marketer seemed to be starting or revitalizing their podcast.

Why such a difference? Why the resurgence of podcasting?

When you put on a podcast, you are LITERALLY inside your audience’s head. They are often listening where they are doing simple tasks (driving, stair master, etc.) where they won’t be distracted by email or another website.

John knows this; he quit his successful job as a commercial real estate agent to become a PROFESSIONAL PODCASTER!

If you have any questions: technical, promotional, spiritual, please ask @entrepreneuronfire

He can talk about why you should do a podcast, what you’ll need to get into the iTunes store, how to promote your podcast and more.

    Thanks, John!

  • My pleasure Rich, and thanks for the intro!  Podcasting is my passion and I have now been doing little else for the last six months besides pouring my heart and soul into EntrepreneurOnFire.com.

My job history does not run in a straight line to broadcasting by any means. After serving as an Officer in the US Army for 8 years (4 active 4 reserves), I held jobs in corporate America as well as Commercial Real Estate.

That all changed in May of 2012 as I decided to follow a passion of mine and fill a niche I perceived.  That’s when EntrepreneurOnFire was born, a 5-day a week podcast where I interview inspiring and successful Entrepreneurs, and tell their story.

It has been a wild ride, and I now have 12 podcasts live, getting over 3,000 downloads a day and holding down the #1 spot in iTunes for New and Noteworthy business.  I am excited to be the Podcast expert in this group…and I certainly have a lot to share.

Please feel free to check out EntrepreneurOnFire to see what it is about @ http://bit.ly/RX3yMa, or just say hi here :-)

    Either way…Prepare to ignite!

    - John

  • Thanks for the intro @rich-brooks

And hello to @entrepreneuronfire —I’m tracking ya now, and am looking forward to listening to your “melodious” (or so I hope ;) ) voice.

  • Hi!  Not sure if it is me or my Heil PR 40 Mic, but I try to sound silky smooth at all times ;-)

  • @entrepreneuronfire

You’ve made a huge splash on iTunes, getting tons of subscribers/downloads and getting listed in New & Noteworthy…what are some of the things YOU did to get such a quick launch to your show?

  • I made sure to have a decent social media platform at launch, and really leaned on my community for their support.  Then, once you creep into New and Noteworthy, you start getting a lot of organic traffic, and its the quality of your show that will take it from there.

A huge key is outright asking for a rating and review…it’s one of iTunes biggest factors in getting high on the New and Noteworthy list.
    Something like this.

“Hey SME community…check out this podcast that supports all Entrepreneurs by sharing insights and experience from todays most successful Entrepreneurs.  A 5-star rating and review is how we reach more people with this free content, so PLEASE 5-star rate and review this podcast…and I will give you a personalized shout out at the top of an upcoming show!”

You really have to rely on the goodwill of others, and Entrepreneurs truly have a lot of goodwill when you are providing free awesome content :-)

  • John, need some help….I’m trying to upload audio files to my website. How do I do that? @entrepreneuronfire

  • Hi Dea,You really should use a media host…such as libsyn.com to host your files.  As cheap as $7 a month.  You upload them there, grab the direct url, and paste that into the “Powerpress” plugin on wordpress.

  • Thanks, John. I found yourlisten.com and added a link to the titles. It doesn’t show a “player” thingy, just the words of the title. I tried to embed the code but got a blank space???? This will work… maybe not the best. (If you want to see, here’s the link: http://www.durhamchapel.com on the “sermon” tab.) @entrepreneuronfire
