Google+ Posting/Engagement (8 posts)

  • I have set up a Google+ Page for each of the “brands/businesses” i manage social media for. We also have Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare accounts/pages for each of the businesses. Obviously the later I easily can schedule posting through Hootsuite that I then layer manual posts on top of. We have Hootsuite Pro but unfortunately the Google+ integration is still only for Enterprise accounts. Has anyone found an alternative to automate Google+ postings?

Additionally, what type of engagement are my fellow campers seeing on Google+ pages? In the pages I traditionally focus on Facebook optimization since our best engagement has been there. I have been waiting for a Google+ explosion but it still seems delayed. What are everyone’s thoughts?

What value have you placed on Google+ in terms of Social Media Management/Marketing? Do you have plans to optimize? Any thoughts or input is appreciated!

  • @alexandrabriggs I think right now G+ is in a “chicken and egg” place–I know I am stalling putting in the effort there. While it has search legs, it’s still not the force. I can only do so much at once, (or afford to pay for it) and that’s why it’s falls in the Later On category.  My sense is that is the same for a lot of folks.

I also think the Pinterest phenomenon set them back, because people got interested in and taken with that site, and again there are only so many cycles to go around and so much money in the budget.

  • I set up a page in early January and began the clunky task of posting my facebook content onto Google+, just to get started.  I’d also like it, if there was automation.  I stopped posting to Google+ when they updated the user interface.  I used to be able to simply copy and paste articles onto the page, however, now I cannot seem to paste anything into the stream.  I am able to paste into the comments field, but not into the “Share what’s new field,” and I don’t want to type in content twice.  Maybe I’m doing something wrong?

The audience on Google+ seems much broader than facebook and it is easier for me to gain increase my circle of connections, however, I don’t feel, at this point, as if these connections are as valuable as facebook fans.  In my niche, I find users of Google+ are more engaged in the advertising of products and self promotion, than informative articles and generally helpful free information, catering to our market.  I don’t place much value on Google+ yet, and I will not be spending much time developing my Google+ page until there is some form of automation.

  •  ditto with joan….im hearing  nothing  about it in my circles…

the only  reason that has  made any sense to me so far was that it would help  my  google rating….but  my  customers arent  talking about it yet….and  my local web  people  think its  going  nowhere so far…

My guy at sproutsocial.com says Google+ is in the works.  Haven’t found anything other than that.

  • First, let me compliment you on keeping all those plates spinning! I am also not putting much time into G+ and am holding back involvement. Hopefully I won’t wait too long. @alexandrabriggs

My friend who does a lot in G+ gets great engagement for all his posts, but mine tend to get little to none.

I think this is part b/c of the little time I spend there engaging w/other people’s content.

Like @deairby says, it’s like spinning plates. I just don’t know if this is one of the plates I want to keep spinning.

  • From what I understand, it doesn’t even matter what you post on G+, just as long as you post something, post frequently, obtain +1s on your site (+1s on the site as a whole are ranked heavier), and include links to your site.  Google uses the data to help you rank higher in their SERPS.  No one uses G+, from what I’ve discovered, except SEO pros!

My business is active on G+, but I don’t spend a lot of time on it.  I follow a few rules that I’ve determined are key for SEO purposes, but it is much more of an afterthought than Facebook.  With very little time expended, and 100% focus on the tiny things that make an SEO difference, I have seen a change in my rankings.

I’m not using G+ for brand awareness, or conversion, or anything except what it means in Google SERPs.  That appears to be all it is worth right now to someone like me.
