Google Plus Quandry (13 posts)

  • Hello all,

I am chomping at the bit to get started with my G+ page but have some issues.  So I was one of the early adopters begging for a g+ account on my personal google account earlier last year.  I got on and started building circles and networks.  Then G+ opened to businesses and brands.

Sidenote — I am a google apps for biz user so my business email is hosted through google apps.  Now that the biz version is available, I’m getting all of these request to my biz g+ profile but I have no activity here, it is on my personal.  And a silly logistical issue is that I stay signed into business google more than personal google so it is more convenient for me to develop my business profile rather than personal gmail profile.  Is anyone else torn between two google accounts like this?  If so, what are you doing?  I’m quite certain they can’t be merged.  Any advice for those of you who have a presence on your regular google account and then also use google apps for biz.

    Thanks so much,Carol

  • @carolstambaugh I am in a similar position, so I too am looking for advice on this.

  • Yes, I’m experiencing the same thing and many other people have voiced this frustration.

This is literally one of the biggest issues I have with Google right now. It’s crazy that they would release a tool like Google Plus and not allow for easy merging between Google Plus personal accounts and Google Apps accounts. It just boggles my mind.

For what it’s worth, Google keeps talking about a migration tool they’re working on that will allow for easy merging/migration of both accounts, which is why I’ve held off on trying to build up Circles on my Apps account. But that was months ago!

In the interim, I’ve just used my personal because, after all, Google only had Plus over there at first and I built up my account there. Like most people. Ugh. Here’s hoping they release that migration tool and soon.

  • I hear you all, loud and clear, and have the same issue. Recently built a G+ page under my new company name, but not too sure how to handle it and make it grow while all my circles and contacts are with my regular, personal G+ page. Surely some help is on the way, one would think…

  • I’m experiencing the same situation and find it very confusing. I hope the Goggle has a future plan to improve the situation for all of us.

  • As they say there is usually always something good in everything bad. I joined google+ but with all the other social media accounts I have, it hasn’t gotten much use. I hope that the situation becomes workable before I start to dig into the, “meat and potatos”, of it.

  • I ran into the same dilemma and here is what I did:

My personal gmail account:1) you can download your circles and contacts so you don’t lose them. Go to your Gplus profile. Click on the Settings wheel in the top right. Click on Data Liberation. Download.  Problem is: you can’t upload so this is just for record keeping if you’ve created a lot of contacts and circles.

    2) If you created any business pages, go to each page, click on the wheel Settings and click on Manage.  Add your business email (the one you’re using with Google Apps) and send yourself an invite to manage those pages.  They will then show up under you other Gplus profile

    3) Then edit your gplus profile (the one you don’t want to be using) by going to it, editing your profile and going through each section and change the visibility from Public to Just You.  That way more people find your other gplus account instead.

    4) Then, go to the gplus account you want to use, finish setting that up and create those circles.  I figured since I just got started, it was okay.  Now I’m all set.

  • Google+ is completely pointless except for googles SEO.  There are still more people using Myspace than Google+.  The only way I feel to effectively  use G+ is to just join as many circles as you can so that you appear in as many SEO formulas as possible.  If you are trying to get your specific clients to join, use other social media platforms to casually mention that they should join your G+ circle.

Thats just my experience, but I also hate Google for making Google+ so I may be bias on the whole topic.

  • @carolstambaugh You can share “manager” access to other Google+ accounts. This way you could add the business page under your personal account and migrate information over. You will want a specific business page to post to as your business. Additionally you will be able to use the Hangout feature as your business and post helpful photos and videos that you are then able to tag.

  • @matthewoneill I like trying new things, so I won’t agree with you that Google+ is pointless. It is different though and therefore challenging. But I have to say I’m enjoying learning about it and reading everyone’s comments about Google+ here.

I believe it will only keep growing.

  • I have a question on google circles. When I first set it up a list of e-mail addresses presented themselves to me and I sorted them into circles. since then I’ve had a whole load of e-mails some of which I’d like to add to circles. Do I have to add them one by one? Also, do I have to check each one to ensure I don’t duplicate? Is there a possibility of having a list automatically generated that detects where it left off from the initial list of addresses so I don’t have to check for duplicates which would be very time-consuming?  Any help appreciated!

  • I have a Google+ business page but I just don’t hear that many people outside the business world talking about Google+ pages. Is there enough exposure to make it valuable for small business owners? And by small I’m talking one brick-and-mortar card and gift shop that doesn’t sell on the internet.

  • @carolstambaugh, as far as i know, you can’t change email id in g+ but you can add another email id to your profile. But not sure whether you will be able to sign in to same g+ profile using that newly added email id.

    Thanks,
