Google+ Communities (15 posts)

  • Happy Sunday Folks.

Have you noticed the new icon in your Google+ account?  It’s for “communities.”  Yep – and it’s great!

There was some talk here about a hangout for SME CLUBS so I thought it might be a good idea to speak to that now —

First a community for SMC Club members and then announce hangouts in that community.  How about that?

  • I find google plus for pages to be extremely challenging as a marketing platform for business. I am hoping that with this new community section we can actually market to the public and get them  onto our pages.

  • @supereb @findnjhouse I think Eileen’s idea has some merit. I haven’t spend time “knocking around” communities yet, but does it offer more than 10 seats per hangout?

  • I love the idea, Eileen.  I started a community this week and people are joining.  I have join several other also.  I was hoping we would discuss communities here.

  • @supereb I was just invited to join the EventsProfs community so I’ll let you know how it goes. Like your idea of one for SME too. I watched some of a hangout with Bad Astronomer and it looked interesting. I’ve been thinking that it would be good for our association too…

  • That would be great!! I have participated in a couple of Hangouts on G+ and have now joined a couple of communities. The more I am using G+ lately the more I like it.

  • @supereb I just saw the announcement in my inbox yesterday. I have joined a podcast and blogging community. I love the idea off communities, it helps segment discussions and also when you share content it in that community on the same particular subject its highly targeted.

  • Google+ communities sound like a great tool.  I, too, have had trouble building up my Google+ page and this might do the trick!  I look forward to more discussions about this with my SME buddies!

  • @rich-brooksDo you need a volunteer to get this going?
I think folks are interested in taking our SME relationships here to another level.

  • I really like the potential of the Google+ communites.  I started one yesterday and have added the topics and a few posts to it. Sent out invites and now am waiting to see….  HorseBiz Hangout and this am started a another, Social Media for Small Business

It will be interesting to see where they go.  I see some have taken off like wildfire already.

  • I am also very excited for the communities. I just created one today and hope people start joining it. Any suggestions when you don’t have a huge following?

Here is my community, it’s called fixing things makes sense: https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/111992010488641250654/communities/117993879211538406084

  • @supereb

How would you see it working? I haven’t played around with communities yet.

  • HI  @rich-brooks

I’m still figuring out communities myself.  Working on it swiftly though.  I have a friend with a very interesting thread on this very thing  at G+ —

    What’s working and what’s not.

WARNING – some language you may not like.

  • Hi  @rich-brooks  —

You know, it might be a good idea to push someone in there from your organization, feet first, to see how this could pan out for SME and the SME Club members.

A real SM extension might bring in a lot more members and spread the word about your summits.

    Just sayin’.

    Eileen :D

  • @supereb
Well, just to be clear, it’s not my organization…;)

That being said, I’ve brought it to the powers that be. :)
