  • Sorry if this topic is already formed – I didn’t see one though.

Since Google+ pages are difficult to get followers I thought it would be great to create a “follow” exchange for business pages. Follow the business pages from your personal page and then share your business page as well! Together we can help create connections!

Here is my Google+ business page: https://plus.google.com/b/103466608100621418309/

Here is my individual page if you would like to connect there as well: https://plus.google.com/114549049022387784117

Share your business page here to grow your circle! :)

Hi Shannon – I haven’t done much with Google+ just yet, but here are my pages.

  • @shannontaylor22 Hi Shannon

I don’t think link exchanges are a very good way of boosting your Google+ page or any social networking page for that matter.

You mention it is difficult to get followers. What have you done thus far to attract followers to your page?

Also, I notice that you have just 3 posts on your page – do you think this is enough to entice people to follow you?

  • I’ll throw my personal link in – if anyone is interested in posts and conversation on social media, you can link to me at http://gplus.to/danielmckean

Did you notice the custom url for google plus?

  • Getting followers for our business pages have been a bit of a challenge. What is working for you guys?

  • Russell has made some great points… content, content, content entices followers @russellallert @shannontaylor22

  • Here’s my business page: - http://gplus.to/sociovant – and my personal page: - http://gplus.to/jamesalonso - Thanks!

  • I’ve managed to get quite a few followers on Google + just by doing a lot of hard work.  My brand is in a very specific category, so first, I went through and found all of our manufacturers and suppliers and added them.  Then I added all of our largest accounts, then targeted companies that have either requested quotes or could be a potential future customer, based on their industry.

I’ve also added my brand to some brand circles that are related to my industry.

For example, if you sell textbooks, search for and add colleges, add high schools, add student associations, add the publishers.  People will add you back if you have something interesting to offer.

Get involved and engage.  Do a search on Google Plus for “textbooks” (again, if that’s what you sell), plus one some posts that you find interesting.  Comment.  People will plus one you back and add you.

I thought it was really hard at first, as well, but once you get the ball rolling, it keeps going.

  • @juliacasey you have some great tips for Google+, I know i have been struggling to get new followers for my business page gplus.is/realgyenergyservices.
    Thank you for your advice

  • @juliacasey Great strategy to follow for G+. Have you seen any return on your time investment in the form of direct contacts or leads?  Mine G+ is http://AmyHall.biz/GogglePlus

  • @amyhallbiz

I did actually get my first sale from a huge company that I had added on Google Plus.  I can’t make a definitive correlation, but we had never had any quote request or lead from this company prior to me setting up the page and adding them about a week ago. It was a very nice, large sale, was very pleased.

The thing about Google Plus is that the value is much further reaching than just having followers read your posts.  The more +1s you get, the more trust your site shows.  Also, just recently my +1 number has started to show in all my ads on AdWords.  This is major as none of my competitors use Google Plus.  So on the ads, all three of us are listed in the ad block, but my site says +1′d by xxx amount of people.  This has increased my CTR in a huge way.  I believe searchers are influenced by this to click my site instead of my competitors.

My Google Plus posts now show up in the SERPs too, on regular Google.  If someone who has added me is signed in to Google Plus, and they do a Google search for any item I sell, my site comes up +1.  This is hugely valuable.

More than anything it has boosted my organic rankings, and increased my click through rate indirectly through all these other aspects.  Not much actually happens via direct conversations on Google Plus.

  • @juliacasey That’s really, really good to hear! I use social media for the SEO juice and G+ is my very fav because of the wonderful SEO benefits.

Just an FYI the boost that you’re seeing with the +1′s. They go along with being logged into a Google asset like Gmail, G+, YouTube, etc. So when someone is logged into a Google asset they are a lot more likely to see your +1 websites and posts. If someone isn’t logged into a Google asset your SERP pretty much reverts back to normal. But the +1 is a huge asset as most people have some type of Google account somewhere. (Google is taking over the World!)

  • @amyhallbiz

It is a little scary everything Google is doing now.  Kind of makes me think of a sci fi movie from the 50s with some big corporation owning the world.

I don’t know if you’ve been following, but Facebook has just partnered with Bing in yet another attempt to become the Google Killer.  Bing is going to include Facebook in their search results (much much more complicated than that simple statement).  So it looks like everyone predicting that we need to jump on social marketing is exactly right.

You can read more about this new Bing/Facebook search collaboration here

  • @russellallert I know like exchanges are not the most ideal way to gain likes. I will be doing traditional methods- like sharing with our clients, etc. I just like to get a jump start sometimes with like changes.

I know I only have 4 posts I have just put together the page 2 days ago. I realize content will drive followers which I plan on adding more to on a daily basis.

  • @shannontaylor22  Do what @juliacasey did. She nailed it.

  • This just popped up in my email. It might add something to the debate. I also added a comment there as well. :)

    Cheers!

  • @russellallert

    Thanks for the read.

As far as 100 million users, and “fastest growing network” I have to roll my eyes. Wasn’t a G+ account forced on just about everyone who had a gmail, google docs or google analytics account?

Besides, everything’s faster these days. Does anyone really think Pinterest would have caught on as fast even two years ago?

Everything gets picked up faster these days because we are all connected.

A big part of me wishes that Google would go back to being the world’s greatest search engine and leave social to someone else…rather than mucking up their search results with G+ interference.

    </end rant>

  • @rich-brooks Hey Rich. Part of me agrees with you re: Google Search, but I like the social integration (although would be good if you could get both).

Have you seen Google’s latest project? Google’s “Knowledge Graph”. http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/05/16/before-facebook-i-p-o-google-shows-off-its-new-brains/

The video at the end explains it well.

  • I haven’t been using G+ as much as I should, I seem to be hit and miss.

  • This may have been answered before, and if so I apologize.  Does anyone know how to link their blog with the google plus business page?

  • @emillewolstenholme  On your page, in the profile area, edit your profile and add your site to the links area at the bottom of the profile page. The other thing you need to do is to put the red G+ button on your website. This will cross link and give you the best SEO juice. Google really encourages/pushes adding the G+ button to your site.

@russellallert While there may not be the networking opportunities on G+ that there are on Facebook … G+ is much superior to Facebook to help with ones website search engine rankings. It’s not that the G+ will bring your site more traffic, it’s the point that being on G+ and playing the G+ game will raise your P/R rank and your Alexa rankings, and in the long run more people will see your website and you’ll probably get more leads.

IMHO if you’re not on an industry specific social media network you’re probably wasting your time on social media. No matter how much time I spend and how hard I try on Facebook I haven’t gotten any leads from Facebook. But my business exploded when I added SME and MailChimp experts into my social media daily duties. Industry specific social media sites are where the gold is at. That is why LinkedIn and Facebook groups work well … because the members are interested in the topic. I get leads from groups in LinkedIn, not from my LinkedIn profile. – It’s all about letting people know about you and helping them solve their problems and hopefully they like what you’ve done and call you to help them more.

  • Google+ actually scares me because I don’t get it. I already struggle with other sites like it. I do like the information you gave Julie but I feel I am not ready for this. I sometimes take awhile to learn a new site and am not looking forward to learning this one.

  • Just got this email/blog post from Local Visibility System regarding the announcement of the Google Places-Plus merger and the mass chaos this is going to cause poor little business owners, most whom have not yet even claimed their Google Places page and don’t have a clue what a 1+ is. Yall simply MUST read this! Made me quiver and shiver and shake and giggle all at once.

    http://www.localvisibilitysystem.com/2012/05/30/my-cliffsnotes-on-the-google-places-plus-merger/

All I can say is that this surely will give social marketing managers and local marketing consultants something to do for a while. But how do they explain what’s happening to their clients’ Places Page rankings and all the money spent on what now looks like another defunct Google venture?

  •  I could not read all of your pages, but will in the morning.. Oh, I mean later this am when I go to bed a sleep a bit.

I normally talk about business use of technology and why it is important, but will also throw in from time to time personal stuff… not as personal as a facebook entry, but a little tidbit of who I am, since I don’t always want to talk about business

    Thanks

  • I got a weird thing when i tried to follow some of you… you have reached the maximum number of people that you can be in your circles at this time… What does that mean… ? Anyone know? Wanted to connect to few of you, but could not.

  • @atlantarobin  Google + hasn’t taken over Google Places pages entirely. Now the layout of a Google Places page is the same as a Google + page … So the place page is much more visual. You still manage the Place pages through the Places dashboard … not through Google+ yet. (But you know that’s coming!)  Places, both Google and Yahoo are excellent mini websites to boost the SEO of your own website. I will never understand why a business doesn’t claim them!

  • @shannontaylor22  and @mgoes – I have added follows to your pages. Are link exchanges the ideal way? No, and that’s okay with me; you asked for help here’s mine.If you would like to reciprocate: https://plus.google.com/b/101927332964952920083/

    To success!
