Google AdWords + 3rd Party AdWords Services (5 posts)

  • Hello Everyone!

I need some help: I am trying to convince management to directly use Google AdWords, but they want to use a 3rd Party Service instead (someone owned by Yellow Pages).

However, I wanted to use Google AdWords on my own from my own budget. But I read somewhere that this could violate Google AdWords terms of service. Thoughts on this? Does anyone know anything about it?

  • I do adwords myself for my company using my email address but their credit card.  However we also have budget to have an outside agent do a different campaign for the adwords.  My problem with the outside agency is I can’t see what they are doing.  They send a summary report at the end of the month.  So I developed landing pages for each of their ads.

First of all I’d avoid anything that has “Yellow Pages” attached to it.  There are soooooo many of them and I consider them a scam/spam.  If a fax comes in trying to charge us I just throw it away and ignore any of them that come through email.  The only true “Yellow Pages” is through your phone company.

In regards to adwords, make a landing page for each campaign or ad.  That way its easier to track on Google Analytics to see their effectiveness (how long they stay on the page).  Secondly, For my adwords I’m very specific and list makes and models of the used equipment I’m selling so I have an ad for each piece of equipment.  The agent uses more general terms but targets the five counties we operate in.

    Hope this helps.

  • Great info, Trudy. @trudyd1474

I don’t know why it would be a violation of Google’s terms, but it might be unacceptable to your corporate overlords.

Not sure why they’re making the decision they are, but if you can’t get them to let you use some of your budget to market something from your department I’d let it go.

Either they have their reasons, or maybe it’s time to start thinking about finding a place to work that will let you try out some new tactics.

  • @rich-brooks I let most things slide off my back, but I was all excited with these neat ideas I had so I wanted to fight for em :) but I was just told we’re sticking with this vendor because they want me to spend less time on PPC and more time on our MCIF. Joys of doing three or four full time jobs :D
