  • I use gmail because I can access it from my Android and on any computer.  My one dislike is that I cannot sort by sender or date as I can in Outlook.  Am I missing that option?

Being an iphone guy I can’t address any Android specific UI questions, but Gmail’s strength has always been it’s search.

It took me a while to get rid of the idea of folders (although I use labels in a pinch), but now I’m folder-free and loving it!

When I need to find an email from John Doe I just search the name. Having used Entourage in the past (for some reason MS named Outlook “Entourage” for Mac), the speed of the search is amazing.

  • good tip, I will try that from now on.  Can you search by date?

  • @deereinhardt When you click in the search box, you should get a dropdown where you can select by date, name, keywords, etc. The search feature in gmail is awesome. I dropped Outloook years ago.  I can still find emails in my gmail from 2006 within a matter of seconds.  If you are on the old gmail version, there should be an “advanced” search button link where you can search by keywords, etc. The new version just made it a dropdown now.

  • @deereinhardt if you are still using the ‘old look’ of gmail, there should be a little link that you can click on the right of the search box that is marked ‘Show Search Options’. From there, the section of the search options on the bottom right will let you search by date. So, you can select the day or days within a range of say, for example, 2 days from january 1st, 2012. Hope that helps!  =)

  • @rich-brooks @deereinhardt Imagine my surprise when I started working and the company uses Gmail instead of Outlook. Thank goodness I’ve used some of the other tools (calendar, docs, etc.) or it could’ve been a learning curve. I do use labels to keep my inbox relatively clutter free (Conference, Content, Twitter, etc.).

  •   @kc_kreative do you like gmail or outlook better?

  • @matthewoneill There are benefits to both. One aspect of Outlook that I like is being able to create templates; however you might be able to design them in Gmail. I only know a little about Gmail capabilities. Maybe someone else has some additional insights?

I do like being able to access my email anywhere and it was quite easy to add to my Android phone vs. Outlook (which required approval from work, etc.).
