  • Everyone, there are many of you here on SME, who have been successful in getting leads on Social Media, especially LinkedIn. When you want to get leads web/facebook development, social media, project management, what kind of groups do you engage with? I don’t think, that being active in a group of social media experts will get you a lead of social media, because the most users there are like you.

And what do you think about G+ communities? Any secret tip to interesting ones?

  • I don’t engage with sales and marketing groups. I find linked in really invites a bragging environment where everybody is hard selling and showing off. There is also no way ill be getting leads from these groups.I find niche industry groups of 50-100 members. If they’re active then you can very quickly see the challenges of the industry and can offer some help if, and when, it’s needed.

  • @milan-steskal i think  you are so right..in the places  you are  the most at home   you are mostly  all  inthe  same  boat  generally and not   looking  for  each others  services…… and thats why  you  shuold  look  elsewhere  for  work…like in  your local  town or  region…and   branch out   from there…..   why not   pick  a category  where you are  very interested….hairdressers, trucking,  horses,  antiques, etc???,,,,and  get to  know the terms  , the  main  influencers, the trends,   the   good  sites….  then  you  could present  yourself  to that world locally   and   have a leg up on    the  more  generic   interenet gurus…maybe  make a mock up site  in   your   chosen  field….

i try to get others in my world  to  come  to places like this   where they  could  meet  you  but they  dont  want to  come….  its  so over our heads….but we need  you….i  get  tons of  business  from  my internet efforts and always  need help with undersstanding  soemthing….many   downtown  businesses  are in  my situation…..

  • The trick is to join groups that cater to your customers. The way to do that is to visit your current client connections’ profiles and looking to see what groups they are in and then opt to join the same groups figuring that similar people will be in those groups.

There are more than 1.5 million LinkedIn groups so you can be sure that there will be groups of interest to your clients. To best research LinkedIn groups, click the magnifying glass next to the Search Groups box to go to the Groups Directory where you can just type a keyword into the box to find relevant groups.

I think the secret sauce is content your customers need.

Whether it’s a blog, YouTube, podcast, Slideshare, FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., it’s all about creating amazing content and distributing it through any appropriate channels.

Meaning, channels where your ideal customer hangs out AND wants to learn more.

Also, the message needs to be tweaked for every channel. There are different expectations in each channel, and you need to respect those.

If your content is H2O, there are places where it needs to be as solid as ice, other places where it needs to flow like water, and still others where it needs to be as transient as steam.

I’m not sure where that came from. Sounds purdy, tho.

  • @rich-brooks @milan-steskal   Rich, great point about relevant content your users will want to consume.

Milan, I like Facebook marketing and here is my formula:
    1. Create a great post with pictures, good Content and a Call to Action.
    2. Create a campaign in FB and laser focus that to the demographic you want. Geo, age, pages they are likely to “Like”, etc.
    3. Create an ad to promote the post.

When they land on the post, first get them to Like your page. That retains them in your group to market to. Then deliver that great content to them and finish up with your call to action (Offer/Sale/Limited Time/Special/Free…whatever).

  • @bob-green @matfitzgerald Great tips, I’m going to try them out. Thanks!
