Fun with Camtasia! (23 posts)

  • Hi, everyone.  I have been gone for awhile.  Sometimes life gets in the way…

Anyway, I am coming back and have been playing with my Camtasia!   As most of you know,  Facebook has now released the new Business Timelines.  I wanted to make sure that my fans could find their way through it and decided to start a course.  I knew the same old boring comments would not be interesting and so decided to play with Camtasia ( a video editing software that we can do screen shares with) and have been having a blast.

First I had to remember how to use the software, then I started getting more creative with what I was sharing.  Now, I realize that I should have been using Camtasia much more then I have been doing.

This is the Camtasia video I released today about the Facebook Business Timeline so you can see what I am doing with it,  this one is “Where did my posts go?”    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAAIeUu_tXo

Have you been using Camtasia in your internet marketing or social media promotions?   What do you think of this?

  • I have never used it but I just watched your video and it looked great! Do you use a built in microphone or an external and if so, what do you use?

  • Great job @randithompson

Looks like Camtasia was a good purchase!

  • Thank you @digitaldeans  I have a Snowball microphone that I use for recording.  Now that I am comfortable with Camtasia I am going to use it more often.  This is so much better then writing articles or comments and people seem to really like the videos. This has been an eye opening experience for me.  I think by people hearing my voice, that it also helps to let them know more about who I am.

At first, learning how to use Camtasia seemed difficult. I was being to serious. This week, I found that I am having fun with it.   Now, I am recording the course in Camtasia. Each part will be a seperate file so that people can go over it when they want, and focus on which part they need to. This is going to be my first information product!

  • thanks for sharing the video you created, Randi. Looks great. I, too, want to know about the microphone you use? @randithompson

  • My thoughts exactly @randithompson! I’m definitely going to give it a try!

  • Hi,@deairby!  Nice to see you again.  I see you are now a Maven. Congratulations!

    I am using a Snowball.

  • Robin @digitaldeans    Camtasia sells for around $300.  I found it at a very good price. Camtasia also has two other programs that do not have all the features.  Snagit is popular, and the free version is Jing.

  • Ouch! I need a sugar daddy…lol

  • @randithompson I’ve considered purchasing Snagit. I like the idea of Camtasia, but I’m not sure I’m willing to invest the $300

  • @randithompson Great video, that program does look interesting. I just wonder – are the files you create with Camtasia exportable to be edited in other programs like Adobe’s Premiere?

  • Robin @ @digitaldeans and Jules  @juleswebb   If you can get other people interested, who want Camtasia, it comes with three keys!  Or at least it used to…  I am sure you could check on that  :)

  • Thank you Thomas @ecumenix    I am now working on the course using Camtasia.  I have no idea if it could be exported to Adobe.  I create mine and send them to Youtube as that way they are formatted for use anywhere.  Camtasia does as much editing as I will ever need.  It is the high end editing software before making the big step up into the professional quality.  What is Adobe Premiere?

  • I use Adobe Captivate for client work and so I’ve been using that to create information products for my business. I love it. I love the ability to add background music at the start, and the way I can record audio for each slide separately. It captures screen and mouse movements, too. It’s more expensive than Camtasia, but it’s a great tool if you already own it, or if you are building an elearning library.

A another tool that might help some of you is Screenr. For a low monthly fee, you can create and store screencasts.

  • @digitaldeans @charlene-kingston I use Jing, which is free, for short training videos. You can embed them in your website or use a link to them. I don’t make anything over 3 minutes or anything that needs to be edited. – I don’t use music in the background, but someone did tell me they could hear my cat meowing in the background. ;)

  • @amyhallbiz thanks for the tip – I’m pretty sure Mr. Fluff would be jealous and try to add his 2 cents to my future presentations too!

  • I use Jing. http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html its awesome.

  • @randithompson

Randi, I take it by the price you quoted that you’re using the Windows version. Last month, TechSmith gave me a free copy of the Mac version (much cheaper), which I understand is not as saavy as the Windows one (an historical event: beating Mac at anything, lol). Thanks for sharing your link and so glad to see you dive in with your new info products. Cool beans!

  • @charlene-kingston Thank you for that great information.  You have really stepped into the zone of using this type of software.  I have had mine for awhile and did not use it like I am now.  I was focusing on editing videos and webinars.  Now as I get deeper into Camtasia I see I can record webinars right from it!   What an amazing time we live in.  Now that I am back into it and am starting to put out a daily message for my fans.  This is so much easier then writing…

How long have you been creating information products?  This will be the first one I have created from scratch.

  • @amyhallbiz  LOL!   I have two cats.  I find at times that we forget they are here.  I had to re record a section several times last night as they both felt that my talking outloud is the perfect time to get extra attention.  They both played with the scratching wheel (that round thing with the ball on the outside)  Then one decided to help me by walking across the keyboard (which was fine until they changed the screen)  and the other started meowing and scratching my leg (the light way that cats do this…) to get my attention.  Maybe they need their own show?   I was going to try and cut those parts but have added my face to the screen so each time I edit (cut) the mistakes the screen gets jerky.  When I realized that they would not leave me alone I made one without me showing.

Since I have Camtasia, I have not looked at Jing.  What else can you do with it?  I know so many people prefer the free version.

  • @randithompson  I use it for screen shots and short training videos.

  • @randithompson I’ve been creating information products for more than 10 years for clients, and now, I create them for my own business.

  • @randithompson

Randi, make sure you go back and put a link to your website in the description for your video on YouTube. Make it the very first thing in the description, that way people will be able to see it without having to scroll down or click the “More” button. That link will help your website rank higher. The more videos you can produce with a link back to your site the better….
