FreshBooks accounting cloud program (9 posts)

  • I became aware of this product today as an alternative to using Quickbooks. Are any of you familar with it? If so, I would appreciate your opinion and how it compares to QuickBooks.  I always recommend QuickBooks Pro to my startup clients.

  • I was checking the mashable website for info and all the entries were from 2009 and earlier… don’t know what that means. I’ve used quickbooks and curious to see if people are using freshbooks.@trudy

    I haven’t used Quickbooks for about 7 years. I am currently using Freshbooks.

    Quickbooks is a much more sophisticated piece of software and offers a lot more features than Freshbooks so I guess it depends on what your needs are.

    I’m a freelance front-end web developer and I use Freshbooks to track my time and send out invoices. I can set up clients, projects and contractors. Clients can pay emailed invoices using paypal. Works great for me, but I’m pretty small and don’t need all of Quickbooks features.

    You can set up an account for free and take a test dirve. They have an attractive intuitive interface that you can customize with your logo and colors.

    cheers!

  • thanks, I’ll check it out @juleswebb

  • @juleswebb Thanks for that info.

    As a small business consultant I try to keep abreast of things like this so I can recommend them to my small start up clients.

    Are you able to get any financial reports, like Profit and Loss and can it be exported to excel or some other format?   @deairby

    @deairby

    They do have the ability to run some reports, but not P&L. You’re not putting all your expenses in like some cking or cc account that you set up in Quickbooks.

    They may have some addons that give you this type of function, but I have not explored that option. If anyone else has experience with Freshbooks and knows more please speak up…

  • I do get P & L , well my accountant did. She could get it simply or complicatedly… not sure about exporting it. @trudy

  • @deairby @juleswebb The reason I asked is that if this is your only bookkeeping method for your business and for some reason you need to provide your last 3 years of financials I want you to be able to easily do it.  I also want you to be able look at them monthly so you can see just how your business is fareing and if y ou are making a profit  or having a loss.  I want you to also be able to easily and quickly provide an Assets and Liability Statement.  I want you to succeed.

  • @deairby - I’m guessing your accountant is not doing this through freshbooks.

    @trudy - sounds to me like you’re looking for accounting software like Quickbook. I think Freshbooks is more of a billing and time tracking software. They say say they organize expenses, but I from my perspective that’s about tracking contracting services you outsource to not material items you purchase.

    I haven’t looked, but I be willing to bet there is an addon of some sort that enables you to import your income and “expenses” from freshbooks into quickbooks.
