Finding customers for Prim Dolls (12 posts)

  • Hi, maybe something similiar has been shared and I have missed it. If so I apologize and if directed will go to correct place in club.

I have a client who creates Prim dolls that sell for quite a bit although worth every dime. I will be doing more work on her page to promote and making others aware of her creations at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Georgia-Vivienne-Creations/304017586322128 & http://www.georgiaviv.com
I want to learn more how to promote her dolls and the types of people that will purchase such an item. Using a middle man to sell them and the work/material involved in creating them takes any kind of profit out of the whole endeavor. I will be photographing more of the dolls this week and need to get a move on promoting them.
I have not promoted such an item so am looking for direction if any would be so kind as to help. Thanks in advance.

  • you  could look on   some  primitive  forums  and see  where those women   sell…..  there  is a  good one onthe  delphi forums…called primitive and rusrtic crafts  if i remember the name   right…..  those  country girls have all kinds of  web   communities…….also  check out the etsy sellers….and  btw….there is hardly any  content  on her  facebook page….  hardly any dolls  showing…

  • @annfurnivall
Thank you. I will check these out and see if can come up with some ideas. I appreciate your direction.

I know there isn’t much content yet and am hoping to get photos today to add. She asked me where to find those interested in her prims and learn how to market to them so trying to multi-task. :)

  • you  could  fairly easily see  the actual  selling  market on  etsy and ebay..but  be  sure you are looking at   items  sold   not  just  for  sale….  .

.the other part of the   doll market is   gallery  type   venues    and juried  shows….. sounds like you are head of  sales  and   tekk person  both….good luck…

  • @annfurnivall
Thanks doing my best but sometimes new areas I have to learn the direction to go. Did stumble on some directories to advertise in my search.

I wouldn’t put all my eggs in the FB basket. Within FB, however, maybe you could encourage people who have bought one to send in pictures of them playing w/the dolls. (Unless one doesn’t play w/these dolls…I have no idea since I only grew up with “action figures.”)

You could post those photos to your page, or invite people to post their own pics.

If you haven’t yet, go check out the Facebook Club and ask for some help there, especially getting ready for the Facebook Timeline changes. More on those changes here: http://www.flyte.biz/resources/newsletters/12/03-facebook-timeline-for-business.php

I like @annfurnivall ‘s suggestion of Etsy. Also, how about EBay? That way you can create outbound links to your website/shopping cart and get in front of new audiences.

I’d also create a blog w/posts about Prim dolls (What’s a Prim Doll? 10 Reasons Why a Prim Doll is the Perfect Mother’s Day Gift.) I’d also look for some established blogs around the topic and see if they’re open to some guest blogging.

Hope this helps get your creative juices flowing!

Thank you for your input. I do appreciate what you said about not putting all my eggs in the FB  basket. My client already has a web site I am working with her on and blog. I have been trying to encourage her to be the one to post on facebook, to blog and twitter more.
I will post more I believe in the facebook club side of things as well.
I do think there is value in Etsy and Ebay as well. Lots of great food for thought and things to pursue.

  • @rebeccacohen

Selling on the web does not need to depend on store conglomerates.

BUILD an actual website to do what these gals need. Sell directly from the site, using PayPal and/or Clickbank.

I’d say first off, you need some serious SEO work.  If you are just now developing the site – consult an SEO person

I understand Etsy and Ebay take a good portion of the sale. You will pay out less with each purchase if you do your own selling, the right way.

    :D

Thank you. I believe the web site is a good idea and am utilizing one already with paypal in addition to facebook. I am doing some changes on the site but it’s been ready to go and useable for sometime. The client has a difficult time with perfectionism and changes with every wind at times. We are working on these issues and thankful for her open mind.
Thanks for confirming what is already taking place.

  • ebay  doesnt  take much f rom the sale, altho the ebayers  complain about their  fees…  ….why i mentioned ebay  was to  see where your   client   fit into the actual  buying  market…its a place to see the prices  of  similar   dolls. @rebeccacohen   its  good  for infomation   …but  you  have to look at  completed  auctions,  not  what   people are  asking….  completed  tells  you  what   waas  actually wanted and paid  for…

  • @annfurnivall
Thank you, I really appreciate you suggesting this. I also did head over and connect on Delphi as well.
Time has been a precious commodity with getting all page’s timelines ready to go before tomorrow. Getting real close so can began to focus again on these other issues again.
I think ebay may be a good place to plug in as well.
