Feedback on program for email opt-in marketing (4 posts)

  • Hi all, I am finishing up my new website which supports individual affiliate marketers who work with the same company I do.  I need to figure out how to capture their email addresses so I can stay in touch periodically.  Was trying to stay low budget to start, and use Mail Chimp, but there Terms of Service prohibit its use with affiliate marketing.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good lower cost company to use AND any input on what I think is called a “gate” – that asks them to opt in, but gives them an option not to in case they’d rather not. I’ve read somewhere that this is more effective, just can’t’ remember where. Thanks in advance!

  • @leila Are you trying to track anything such as referring links, or literally just trying to assemble and grow an email list?

I am not sure of terms of service but Constant Contact is not too, too pricey.

If you are looking for full featured affiilate tracking and email marketing, message me separately.

  • I would suggest looking at Campaign Monitor They have a basic package for as little as $9/month for up to 500 subscribers.

Between their features and easy to use interface for non-techy clients it is mpreferred service.

    RE: “gate”
Not sure exactly what you have going on, but usually the opt-in checkbox is on a sign up form. If this sounds about right then you would have to have whatever software that is doing the signup (like wordpress) communicate through an api to your mailing service software. You should be able to find plugins that do this for you, depending on what software you are using. Without more information I can’t be any more specific than that. Hopefully it’s enough of a lead to get you started in the right direction.

    Cheers!
    Jules

  • @joanmuschampfagnani, thanks for the heads up. I will check out Constant Contact. Right now I am just working on building a list and being able to email them.

@juleswebb , thanks to you too. I’ll check out Campaign Monitor too. As far as the gate – I found the info I couldn’t seem to find (until I posted this – of course!) LOL. It’s called a Welcome Gate and the info is here in case anyone else is interested… http://www.welcomegateapp.com/.  I am not connected or affiliated with them, but have seen sites that use this plugin and really liked it.

    Thanks to both of you!
