Expanding Your Influence (11 posts)

  • What’s the best way to increase your social media reach without spamming people or coming off as insincere?

  • Be helpful more often than you are pushing your product or service.

  • Agree with @debbielynnava
With good content and great communication channels you will increase your social media for sure.

  • @jordanrunsit Talk about what other people are interested in and be helpful. :)

  • It seems the consensus is be helpful, and one more thing I would add would be to make sure you are sincere about it.

  • @debbielynnava I wholeheartedly agree with that as a first step, but one would wonder how to take that even deeper because in the social media world, there are a good amount of people who are helpful, but are also quite dull and oftentimes irrelevant.

@russellallert that also is a valid point. I guess the real question is more of a philosophical one. All of these methods are quite valid, but there is some X-factor that generates interest? Could it be possible that the real issue would be trying to change the whole attitude of social media, especially in regards to business? Sometimes it seems like people are constantly looking to capitalize for their own personal benefit instead of truly “networking” through the use of social networking sites.

  • @jordanrunsit The second step doesn’t just pertain to social media. You have to get to know people and let them get to know, like, and trust you. This goes way beyond talking/tweeting/texting/messaging AT people. It means actually carrying on meaningful conversations WITH people.

  • Well said, @debbielynnava! I think that point is one that businesses have the hardest time grasping.

  • @jordanrunsit  I follow business pages from my personal profile and business profile when they are relevant.

I will actually answer questions, post, etc., on other walls with my business page. However, I always stay to the answer, provide as compelling one as possible, and never, ever, market or spam.

I have also come across really good blog articles, commented in the blogs and said I would be posting on our FB page. I never put in the link, don’t want to spam.

Almost every time, they will find my FB page on their own initiative, follow it, and post from theirs a thank you to us. We do get new followers that way.

But again, it’s giving something without asking for it back. People appreciate it and they do respond.

  • This is why I love SME! All of the answers are so, “spot-on”. @jordanrunsit, you are also right that there is an undefinable quality to the entire thing. I’m supposing that it is this that drives the growing interest in this venue. I really feel that the nature of business is rapidly changing. The failures of some large corporations is probably the product of one element in particular. As the others mentioned, all merchants must accept that people are demanding more of a, “relation”, type of interaction with companies than ever before. As we advance we will probably see the line blur more and more from client seller to, friend-confidant. That’s just my take on it, though.

  • Thanks @ashleychyle. I know it can be a challenge, but it pays off over time.
