Editable PDFs for an EBook (9 posts)

Topic tags: Ebook, pdf
  • I am in the planning stages of creating my first ebook. I want to include some worksheets. I would like to make them editable so that you can write on the forms without having to print them out.

Does anyone know of a free or low cost software that allows you to make editable PDF documents. (Adobe Acrobat Pro costs $900)

  • OK, Clara, I’m the first to say I’m not sure what I’m talking about here… as my technical editing skills are outdated by now… BUT, I found this link that might help:

    http://www.labnol.org/software/edit-pdf-files/10870/

And if these tools can’t help your readers, but only you in the writing-PDF-making process, and you can’t find what you’re looking for… then what about including the links to these free tools and explaining how they can use them to edit the documents themselves. That way price is a barrier to no one!

Perhaps, though, someone has a better fix… something that does exactly what you want… then I will be very happy that you asked this question as I’d like to know the answer also!

  • I am using ” Nitro Pro 7 ” but not for the same reasons.  I believe it will work for your usage though.    Jesse Gibbs is their Sr. Product Mgr   jesse.gibbs@nitropdf.com   and they do have a 14 day free trial too.Hope this helps……….so far, the product is awesome and the price point is excellent.

  • I actually use Adobe Acrobat Professional.  I created the PDF and then you can add editable fields to the PDF.  Basicall they then become forms.  There’s a lot more you can do with it as well.  I really believe that Adobe Acrobat should be required as one of the tools in your toolbox.  You can get oem copies cheaper.  Like $135, just search the internet.  It’s well worth the money.  A lot of people don’t have MS Office and it works well to PDF the document before sending it to the people or putting it on your website.

  • I use Nitro PDF. Does everything Adobe Acrobat can do for WAY less. I’ve used it for years, even to fill out forms and take notes/do research on PDFs I receive.

  • did the nitro pro work for you, interesting to have an editable ebook, I’m working toward one, too and that would be great to offer forms in it… @claramathews @shanikajourney
