Does Klout really matter? (10 posts)

  • As a blogger within the parenting niche it is very competitive, I have been following with interest others views on Klout and if it has any influence at all. Some argue that PR/businesses are more likely to look at you if your Klout score is above a certain number.

I have a Klout of 86, so am often ignored/pushed out by a “A number” of other bloggers in my niche as I am still quite new.

Do you agree that Klout is important? Or is it just yet another stat?

  • Can I just say that I think it can be one way to get additional traffic etc., but I have personally built our business and just started on Klout a couple weeks ago because another site that I used wanted my score…so you can, but to me until you have enough people on your team to be able to monitor many different sites, decide where you are personally seeing the best results and focus on those sites so that you do not get overwhelmed. It’s easy to get yourself spread too thin. Hope this helps.

  • Funny, but my initial reaction to the question is something my teenage son would say — meh — whatever that means. Klout’s fun to play with, but when I rank along side the likes of giants, you know it’s just… well… meh.

  • Also, Emma, if you are offering quality content, you will rise to the top. And, yes, the parenting arena is very full of “experts.” Be qualified with personal experience and offer specific how-to help and foundational principles and you surface. @therealsupermum

  • I guess thats why I am perhaps well liked by readers because even with 6 kids I still screw up :) Its more about honesty than this is how you do it – a bit of a twist to the normal parenting blogs.

  • I must admit – i find myself almost addicted to Klout.  This isn’t a good thing.  While I know there are guidelines that rule the score, I find it almost frustrating to watch my score bounce.

I think it is something to use as a tool…as part of your marketing your personal/social/professional brand…but shouldn’t be looked too much upon as a key factor.

  • I don’t use it for anything, I just like to have a high score :)

  • @therealsupermum You have an 86, but you’re still getting pushed out? Craziness!!
Klout is a great indicator of whether you’re doing social media right, rather than if you’re actually powerful, cool, and important. I mean, we know you are, but that’s a different matter.

Basically, Klout is an indicator of whether you can get people to do something, like click a link or forward a link or use your name in a Tweet. It also tells you whether you’re actually doing stuff you need to, like writing blog content you can get people interested in reading.

  • I’m with @atlantarobin

It’s very ‘meh’ to me. When Klout first came around it was kinda fun to play around with. But now, it’s only to be used as a game and not to be taken seriously. Klout has a lot of flaws – it makes people influencers of things they only spoke about once and people can give you +K’s on just about anything, whether it’s relevant to you or not.

Again, a fun game, but not to be taken seriously.

For me, I’d rather go to someone’s Twitter account and see how engaged they are, instead of looking at some obscure score.

    Just my two cents. :)
