Does Fear & Self Doubt Hold People Back From Business Success? (8 posts)

  • Some times I am puzzled when I run into individuals who have intelligence, talent, start up capitol, and a decent plan which I feel would be successful. However, they procrastinate and just never seem to get to the point of putting it all together to make things happen.

Do you feel that a major part of business success is utilizing your mind to reach the level that you desire? Example: Did you see the Summer Olympics when the South African Runner Oscar Pistorius utilized one leg and a artificial blade leg to compete and do good with runners with two good legs.

To me this person’s mind operated on a higher level which blocked out fear and self doubt which brings my original question back up.

Does Fear and Self Doubt Hold A lot of Talented People Back From Business Success?

  • It’s all in your head. There is a saying which I think gets to the point: It’s not who you are that holds you back. It’s who you think you’re not.

If you want to be successful (in whatever area of your life) you need to be ‘hungry’. Nothing you do half-hearted will end in success. You need to have courage, drive and enthusiasm.

There’s another saying: If you want something you’ve never head, you’ve gotta do something you never did. I live according the famous slogan ‘Just do it’ and it worked well for me so far.

  • I agree. We hear chatter voices in our head that adds to the fear and self doubt. I also say, “follow the no,” or “follow the fear,” often those fears stem from our childhood and we are processing and holding on to those feelings as if we were still five years old. I hate to exercise but if I follow the feeling…it goes back to teasing in gym class when I was a kid.

I’m in a money crunch and I believe it stems from not believing I deserve more money. Now, that I have identified it…I’m halfway there. We just need to update our script and re-write our view of the past and kick some butt! And so what if we fail, how many times did Edison fail….and he did okay in the end, right?

  • @claudiapoeckl   @holly-campbell  Claudia and Holly are both right.  You can have all the talent in the world, but if you don’t ACT it will mean nothing.  I have found I need to just dive right in and, as Claudia said, JUST DO IT!  That does not mean you go in blindly, planning is very important, but it will be for naught if that plan is not followed through.

Many times it may be fear that keep people from action, but at some point you have to set that fear aside if you ever want to accomplish anything!

  • @klg007 i think its mostly  poor  ideas that  dont fit the marketplace…

..  many  dedicated  people   work hard and  dont make it…and if they had had a  better idea to start with it   might have  been different…i thrive on  doubt  especially  at the start of something……if i get a new  idea for our  business i   try  hard  to look at  the  downsides..before  i totally jump in….  the  down sides of the idea  not of me….!!….

. but  of  course  some have possibly  great ideas but never get around to it…. so it  takes   a lot of different   good things  going on to make   a real income  out of a business…….

and  then there is  start up money….

  • Fear of failure is a crippler. @klg007

Love that quote (going to steal it!) “ It’s not who you are that holds you back. It’s who you think you’re not.” Thanks, Claudia. @claudiapoeckl

  • I do believe that people also have the FEAR of success- What does this mean if I become successful, will I loose all my friends, will I be able to handle the money, will I be able to be seen as a person. Do I have what it takes to be successful. Do I REALLY think that this can happen to me?

I also have heard and have practiced it over the last year that you need to be careful of what you speak outloud, because if you speak negative your 2 ears will pick that up and put back into your brain.

I don’t think you should think negative, but voicing it is a NO-NO

    I

  • It’s a big scary thing, going out on your own. Financial instability, fear of failure, then the kahunas to just say f.. it and go for it. A big hairy audacious thing. Not everyone can do that. The whole roller-coaster ride, the highs and lows, the gut-wrenching fear and watching your savings dwindle all while digging in your heels and refusing to give up. Some people just don’t think like that….
