Do you have a Twitter banner you want to show off? (50 posts)

  • Hey, has anyone busted out a new banner for Twitter? Any tips or tricks before I jump in?

Feel free to share your URL here so we can check them out!

  • I made one. The tricks, as far as I can see at this point, are to design around the immoveable box (logo/headshot) and type.

Mine has some tweaking to do, but, here it is:

    Thanks, Rich

  • @margiemintz Hi Margie. I LOVE your clean layout, choice of photos) and color palette — very appealing and professional. It is a good pointer to your design expertise. If you don’t mind sharing, did you use a “template” (yours or third-party’s)?

    Rachel

  • Hi Rachel,Thanks for your kind words. I don’t mind at all. I did it myself in photoshop. The tweaks I referred to are moving things around a little to get out of the way of the text and logo.

    best,Margie

  • I am eagerly waiting for the new design from my graphic design team. Will hopefully get it tomorrow and will post it then.

    Talk later,Denise

    @rich-brooks @margiemintz @rachelagheyisi

  • @margiemintz The magic of Photoshop in the right hands! Well, it’s a beautiful job.  It has inspired me and I will take another look at my Twitter page.

@deniserubright Can’t wait to see what your team creates!

  • Thanks so much, Rachel. Very nice of you to say!

  • @margiemintz – Very classy header!  :D

This could be embarrassing as Twitter has been a lot of fun for me over the years. You’ll see this reflected in the background and therefore, in the new header:

    http://twitter.com/SuperEB

I did have a quick photo up there for a few days but finally needed to make it go along with the background. I don’t think I’m really done with it yet. But for now it is what it is.

    Eileen :)

  • Hiya Folks.

Of the 10 mentioned at mashable I thought this one was fun:

    https://twitter.com/alexmiz

Have you found any that inspired you?

  • @supereb

Is your background built from a template, or did you upload something to use as a background?

If it’s an upload, what size is it?

  • I too have a new Twitter header as well. You can find it at http://www.twitter.com/ccateringc I built it from scratch using Gimp. If you need any help building one let me know and I’d be more than willing to help.

  • Hi Warren @warrenveach

I’ve always made my own backgrounds – the background should be 1920×1080 to fill most screens and not have it end in the middle or on the right side somewhere viewable. I make twitter backgounds but really, anyone can do this.

Just keep the information on the left side to under 200 pixels wide if you want to put information there.  For larger screens you’ll see that the left side leaves quite a bit of blank space (when you are under 200 px).  However, if you expand that past 200 pixels then anyone with a screen smaller than 13″ will miss most of it, at least half and your information will be cut off and look really bad with twitters overlay.

I have several laptops here with various size screens and of course some smaller screens to test with and believe me you don’t want to go past the 200 px on the left side information!

I also worked on my header again – see what you think:

http://twitter.com/SuperEB — Comic book stuff, sort of. Heh.

    Eileen :D

  • Hi Chef Ricky @ccateringc — Nice!  I like that is has color too.  What is the font you used for the logo? I love that one! Always collecting ‘classy’ fonts.

Hi Alex @alex-freire — LOVE this one – a perfect match. You did great.

    Eileen :D

  • Hi Again Warren @warrenveach
It occurs to me that that I left the height off the left side background with my last comment to you, so here is all of that info:

    Twitter Background

    overall size – 1920×1080

    left size width under 200px

    left size height under 700px

    Twitter Header
is 1200 x 600 (in case anyone still needs this). But of course twitter gives you this info. if you look at how to upload before making the image.

    Eileen :D

  • Hi @E N Brown, Thank you!

  • @supereb

Thanks for the info! I like the changes to your header also.

Must be nice to have been gifted with such a creative mind!

  • Thank you for cluing me in to the new feature! After a couple of designs I went with this for now. I already spent more time than I probably should have fiddling with it, but it was fun! Tell me what you all think?  https://twitter.com/ashevillevas

  • Hi Dawn @dawnchitwoodrivers – Looks great – I’ve seen several where the face fits within the header image and like those – pixel by pixel eh?
Hi Warren @warrenveach — Funny I just read your comment after hanging up with a lady from whom I will be restoring a document from WWII –  (see example – be sure to scroll down >>> http://www.buddywebgraphics.com/12-document-restoration-duplication/) - I do love doing the graphics work. The lady I spoke with also has a telegram from the same time period. Oops! Sorry, getting off topic here. Yikes!

    Eileen :D

  • @supereb I LOVE your spirit Eileen! You share very well.

@dawnchitwoodrivers I like your collection of quotes and colors — and the fact  that you had fun putting it all together.

With all the inspiration bubbling up here , I think I’ll accept the (unspoken) challenge and tackle my Twitter page design this weekend.

    Rachel

  • @rachelagheyisi Thank you! Make sure to show yours off after the weekend!
@supereb Thanks to you as well…it was a tedious process of inch layers, repeat…again and again.

  • E N Brown Thank you very much for the compliments. We used Scriptina Pro for the font for the words Classy Catering Creations and for the way it’s means to be we used Simple Snails v. 3.0
Hope this helps. If you see any room for improvement on my twitter page would love your feedback.
    Chef Ricky

  • Hi Chef Ricky @ccateringc

Thanks so much – I’ll go get those for my gazillion font file!  Heh.

    Eileen :D

Hi Rachel — I hope you do have fun with this — Looking forward to previewing your new twitter image.
    Eileen :D

  • Sorry for the much-delayed response, but thank you for you very nice words, @supereb , E N Brown!

the web was made for pictures, I’ve always thought, and it’s one reason that twitter had had less appeal to me.

    Margie

  • good stuff there @supereb

@alex-freire – pretty awesome – loving the pictures.

  • @rich-brooks Just updated mine over the weekend and it seems that they darken the image. Not super happy with my images so may swap out later. I went for consistency with https://twitter.com/kc_kreative as it’s the same image as my background. And for my private news feed account https://twitter.com/hufprnt I selected something that wasn’t too distracting. My work one is a tad better using an image from our website https://twitter.com/AHAA

  • @kc_kreative

If we have a choice I liked the kc_creative one best.  But they all look really good!
    Eileen :D

  • @supereb Aww…thanks E! The KC one was taken by a professional (commercial) photographer :)

  • FYI I’ve just written an article for Social Media Examiner on this topic. I don’t have the publication date yet.

Here are two headers that I’ve created. I’m not a graphic designer and I’m not thrilled with them, but it’s a start.

    https://twitter.com/SocialMediaDIY https://twitter.com/IFDAAZ

  • Hi everyone.

I know I’m supposed to be reviewing/updating my Twitter page, but I got carried away with research and such. But as if by telepathy, today, one of my Twitter pals posted an article about customized Twitter headers on her FB page and sent out the link. What are the odds??? Anyway, I clicked on it and found a bunch of interesting designs. I liked how they are categorized by “type” of inspiration.

Go here to check them out: http://www.wchingya.com/2012/09/twitter-headers.html.

However, I must say that the designs shared here on this forum, so far, trump many of those, IMHO

  • Thanks for bringing this up, Rich. I’m now inspired to work on mine. And, it was fun to look at everyone’s header. @rich-brooks

  • here’s my first, quick attempt @rich-brooks https://twitter.com/deairby

  • Hi Rachel @rachelagheyisi

    Nice link – enjoyed that.

I will note that ‘Louise Myers’ (graphic design expert) is using a piece of a Wordpress header from the “Spectrum” theme.  I saw a few others using backgrounds or headers I recognized which quite frankly, makes them “copied” and not original.  I really laughed at the Louise Myers tho’ because as a graphic design person, you’d think there would be something original.

    Eileen :D

  • Some great header images posted here.

    Tips:

If you want the text to be easier to read choose a darker background or place a dark transparent box in where the text will be (I did that on mine)

If you’re looking to do pixel precise images where you incorporate the profile image in part of your header ( like @dawnchitwoodriversthe actual finished size of the header is 520×260 px

Now I need to figure out what I want to place in the boxes I created on mine ;-) https://twitter.com/ScottProck
Thanks for posting the question @rich-brooks – love the creative spark that has been started … Scott

  • Well, I finally received my twitter graphic this morning. What do you all think? It matches my FB cover. https://twitter.com/DeniseRubright

    @rich-brooks @deniserubright  @supereb @scottprock @deairby @rachelagheyisi @kc_kreative

  • @deniserubright Hey Denise. I like your design. The only suggestion I’d make is to see if they can use a different font/color for your company name so it pops(more) against the header background.

BTW, I’m still circling my own design. As of this morning, here’s where I am: https://twitter.com/rachel_rcw . I wanted to go with “my favorite things” idea, by using icons I can change as I wish in subsequent iterations — at least that is the plan.

Pending issues: I tested the design display on my HP notebook and it looks OK. However, it does not display as well on my desktop; the right hand side appears squashed. Also, I’m yet to upload photos/images for the “gallery” portion.

@supereb what do you recommend for uploading images? Is there an efficient way of doing it? Please share. THANKS!

    Rachel

  • Hi Rachel  @rachelagheyisi

The gallery is images that you tweet but there is one caveat – you need to have the image on your hard drive or in cloud storage to be able to upload.  The instructions are listed at one of my websites:

    http://buddy-marketing.com/twitter-image-instruction/

Pretty simple actually and once you have done this one time, you’ll remember how.

    Eileen :D

  • Hi Dea  @deairby

This is funny – I was just looking at your twitter header when you updated it!  From a charcoal black to what looks like bean soup (?)  or taco casserole (?) ready for the pot or oven.  You’ll have to clue us in on what the food item actually is.  Heh.

    Eileen :D

  • Hi Scott @scottprock

I love those boxes!  Yeah – I see how you need to fill them in and after careful consideration and because they really POP on the page, my suggestion is that you add words in interesting fonts -

    1 – web/graphic design & 2 – Drupal Guru & 3 – Photo Guy & 4 – Autism Dad

Although this information is in your twitter bio – I think it would add so much as the eye goes to those boxes automatically.  Some business and one personal note to show who you are.  Anyhowsen, just my .02 OH!pinion.

Side Note – I have one grand-sugar (age 12) who is autistic.  I know where you are coming from with that notation and so upon reading that, it was a very important point for me and would be for many other folks too.

    Eileen :D

  • @charlene-kingston   @deairby

OK – I think I know what has happened with both your accounts.  For the web your graphic can be of a poorer quality than for print.  It appears that both your header images are very large in weighted size so they are not coming up immediately when your account opens – I viewed both this morning on an older laptop and at first the header image was a charcoal gray and then it updated to the image you have uploaded.  I’d scale those images down to a maximum of 300 dpi and lower if you have software that will do that.  You can have a really nice image that shows on the web at a much lower dpi so it will upload faster.

    Eileen :D

  • @deniserubright Very nice Denise. The gray works well with your icon and the other graphic. Your information is easy to read on it which is key.

  •  Hi Eileen @supereb. Thanks so much for the link with instructions on how to upload gallery shots. I just tried it and it works as intended! Fantastic.

I had a bunch of photos (mainly of my teapot collection) uploaded via Twitpic a while ago, and I thought I could, somehow, use them in my Twitter gallery. So far, no luck. But your instructions do  the trick — easily!

I will revisit this & have fun with it later in the day.

    Thanks again!

    Rachel

  • Hi Denise — @deniserubright

Thanks for the compliment at twitter, I just saw that today.  I like your twitter Header, a lot, but I do agree that the company name should stand out more.

Suggestion: Put Wichita Media on one side of your pic and Consultants on the other side with a font that is wider. This would still leave room for the small icons if you remove the face of the guy (who is he?) that does not relate to your biz just below the name; also on either side of your lovely face.

    .02

  • I love your header Dawn @dawnchitwoodrivers How were you able to incorporate both images into one? I’ve tried to keep up with the thread. If you already explained this, please forgive me.

Thank you for your kind words @kc_kreative

Eileen, I agree with you. And, no, I don’t have any idea who that guy is! LOL @supereb

  • @deniserubright No worries! I haven’t explained it yet so you’re not missing anything. It was a lot of trial and error…uploading the header design umpteen timesuntil it matched with the profile picture. I’ve got a free template here  for either Photoshop or Gimp. I created it with Gimp so I’m not totally sure that you can edit the layers in the PSD file, but either way it’s the recommended 1200x600px and there is a box to show you where the profile picture overlays. There’s not much to the template except to show where the profile pic lies, but I figured if I could save others from having to move and re-upload a bunch of times, it might be helpful…

  • Great! I will check it out. The information is appreciated. @dawnchitwoodrivers

  • nice header, Denise. @deniserubright

  • thanks for the heads up about my header, I’ll try to fix that…check the cookbook for One Eyed Jack salsa…that’s what is featured. @supereb

  • Hi Dea @deairby

Ahhh – I have your cookbook right here, close at hand – I’ll look that up now!

    Thanks :D
