DIY SEO? (14 posts)

  • Has anyone got any experience with  http://www.diyseo.com/I’m looking into SEO software services like SEOMOZ and this one popped up and looks very reasonably priced?

  • @hmmarketing Looks interesting, and I noticed the beginning level of them providing service looks relatively inexpensive as well.

In SEO I am wary of the DIY because it does take some time, at least initially. But some companies charge a lot of money monthly which generally goes way out of line with a normal small business spend capability.

  • I’d be careful with companies that want to do a lot of unrelated links.

  • I just looked at that site.  You can do all this for free by going to various websites and using Google Analytics.  I’ve been following JM McDonald for about 2 years now.  He gives free webinars on SEO and other things on a monthly basis.  He also does some paid ones as well, one of which I took and found very helpful.  http://www.jm-seo.org/Trudy

  • thanks @trudyd1474!
i have been looking for thorough information on how to do my own SEO- playing with google analytics, adwords, etc. and i think the site you recommend may have what i am searching for.
take care and enjoy your Wednesday,

  • I have been doing SEO for small business since 1999 and want to recommend the website SEOBook for learning about SEO. There is also Jon Rognerud’s book, Ultimate Guide to Search Engine Optimization (2nd edition).

That being said, there is really no substitute for having an SEO consultant help you with your websites. There are numerous techniques that constantly change and neither websites nor printed books can keep up with all the search engine changes.

  • we did  and we are on the  first page of  google  in our niche….antiques indiana….  using   organic links and   good  words  and  being in  several   pretty  good places…

we are  regional  not  national….altho we get  hits  from all over…

  • Thanks @joanmuschampfagnani That’s my precise problem. I don’t really have time to do our SEO or stay current with its constant evolution, and similarly cant justify the monthly spend that some SEO agencies are charging. I thought that by using a SaaS I could at least get a head start for relatively low cost….But which one? :) DIYSEO looked like a reasonable option but I cant find out an awful lot about it.

  • @trudyd1474 Thanks for the link, I’ll take a look around.

  • @hmmarketing you are not alone.

  • great discussion here, thanks for starting this thread @hmmarketing

  • I echo @anitacohen-williams that SEOBook is great.

  • Don’t have much experience with DIYSEO, but I use the SEOmoz platform virtually every day. My general impression is that automation tools/dashboards are useful, but to get the most out of them, you need at least some fundamental understanding of SEO best practices.

On the topic of which resources to follow to learn more about SEO, I actually wrote a blog post that highlights my 15 favorite marketing blogs:

Enjoy, and don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions.
