Melissa, I have a mac, too, and haven’t tried Screeny. Is it free or paid? How much? I know “free” is usually too much to ask for with macs, but…
I have found several other tools I use:
- Jing, a freebie… can add text, arrows, color text background highlights… there’s a site where graphic artists have gone wild with their favorite Jing creations… some really funny, Google for it. There’s also the paid upgrade and bigger program where movie editing is possible. Can’t remember the name… maybe Cam Studio or something like that.
- Camtasia is the classic… Just don’t want to pay for it.
- Screencaster.com allows you to record for 15 minutes, while all the other freebies usually limit you to 5 minutes. Students in the fifth grade made AWESOME professional presentations with this one. Got so distracted and jealous… didn’t do any more work the day I saw that, lol!
- I subscribed to someone’s newsletter I met on these SME Clubs, but can’t remember her name. Her website is full of instructional videos she made with Screenr. I think that’s a dot com, but haven’t followed up on that yet. If you do, please come back and report what you find to the rest of us.
Okey, dokey, that’s my memory’s list right now, other than ScreenFlow (I think) for Mac, but my little mac baby didn’t come loaded with that one… and I’m such a freebie baby, it’s hard for me to let go of the green stuff when there’s so many cool free toys to play with out there.
Hope these help! Let me know what yall think about any of these — pro or con — as I’ve used the three free ones, but know there’s much more you can do with the paid ones. My big thing is, though, if I can do something for free, why pay?
