Delicious!??? vs evernote or pinterest or scoop.it or ??? (15 posts)

  • Where does Delicious fit into the scheme of things? Is it another pinterest? Or a tasty evernote? Does it do the same as scoop.it or something else? How does it rate? What’s it all about, Alfie?

  • @deairby

Ah, Delicious. I remember when it was an important part of the social media landscape.

While some people still love it, I just don’t find this social bookmarking site all that compelling.

There was a time I used it to find influential blogs on a specific topic, but I tend to use AllTop for that now.

Unless someone really revamps and reignites it, I feel that its best days are behind it.

Anyone care to take the other side?

  • @deairby I am with @rich-brooks on this. I think Delicious lost a lot of its good ju-ju in the sale/closing rumors. Once people found subsitutes, it seemed to simply become less relevant

  • I used to use Delicious until I got Evernote and haven’t used it since.

  • @dianebianchi Yup me too Diane although I do get traffic from delicious albeit not as much as before Yahoo sold it.

  • I’m done with Delicious. Although for an unusual reason, probably. I’m sick and tired of sites that make it a royal pain for me to retrieve my username and password. Delicious was the King of this inconvenience for me. Which made it all the more upsetting when I couldn’t retrieve this info after the Yahoo sale for some reason.

Regardless, they’re toast to me anyway. There are better and more adaptable products out there for bookmarking based on your preferences, whether it’s visual-based (Pinterest), note taking (Evernote) or other options.

  • @deairby I recall having used Delicious, but I do not even remember my login credentials. Apart from also using Evernote like @dianebianchi I am a big fan of intelligent browser types like Rockmelt – that has many of the Delicious ideas already built in.

  • Rockmelt? never heard of that one, will look for it @ecumenix

  • I think now Delicious is out of concern from every blogger. Now they all tend towards evernote because of lots of reasons.

  • @ecumenix, @deairby  I never heard of Rockmelt either.  I just looked at their website and it looks pretty interesting.  I think I’ll try it out.  I’d like to hear anyone else’s feedback on this too.

  • @dianebianchi Greetings Diane, @deairby just started a discussion about Rockmelt here:  http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/clubs/small-business/forum/topic/using-rockmelt/

  • Thanks  @ecumenix for suggesting Rockmelt, it looks interesting

  • Still hoping that Delicious will come back in some way – I have a suspicion we haven’t seen the last of it.  Like many, following the way Yahoo! bungled the sell off I left the service – I since migrated to Evernote although I have to say I don’t like that service – I find that I create things but I don’t come back to review as often as I did when I was active with Delicious.

  • Evernote? What’s this? You guys… keep posting these sites to investigate, thank you!

  • Thanks @ecumenix.  I saw that and am following the thread.  @chrisloeser Evernote is awesome!  I mostly use it to save pieces of information I want to refer back to, but you can save anything from the web with it or write your own notes in it and can categorize these notes in any way you want and under multiple categories.  You can also sync it on your pc/mac, iphone and ipad.  So definitely check it out!
