Dealing with the Bathroom Wall (AKA Internet) (6 posts)

  • How does everyone deal with the way people are able to talk good/bad about any company, product, people, etc. More in terms of dealing with businesses and products you are looking to buy or acquire.

Obvioulsy the internet is just basically a bathroom wall where anyone and everyone can post anything practically anywhre for anyone to see. Good or bad. Sometimes when people do their “research” on a company or product that you may own/sell/ or are trying to promote and they see the  negative and just believe non credible sources.

How do you go about dealing with these inconsistent sources?

  • @tschiltz

I’ve been successfully swayed to buy or not buy a product based on consumer feedback.

Yes, sometimes that review might be bogus, or ill-informed. I use the same techniques I use in the real world:

    • Are they a credible resource? Specifically, do they know the difference between lose and loose, they’re, their and there, and a few other tricks. Since I have little else to go on, that’s a good place to start. Also, if Chris Brogran or Mike Stelzner says something’s good, I’ve learned to trust them.
    • Are they like me? In other words, do they have the same problems and concerns that I have, and are they coming from a similar space? If so, their reviews mean more.
    • How in depth is their review? A five paragraph review on Amazon is going to convince me more than “this product SUX!” But maybe that’s just me.
    • What do they gain from this review? We all have ulterior motives. What does this person gain from posting this review? Are they a competitor? The company themselves? An affiliate? You can’t always get that information, but I’ve learned to trust my gut.
