CrowdFunding for Sustainable Projects (6 posts)

  • Hi we are building this CrowdFunding site “The Green Samurai” our goal is generate solar installations for public schools in Mexico. What do you do in order to get sponsors, what do you recommend us to do?
    Our site is http://www.thegreensamurai.com

  • @bi2green

Are you looking to start a crowdfunding site, or are you looking to get crowdfunding for the solar installations?

If it’s the latter, there are dozens of crowdfunding sites out there, the most popular probably being Kickstarter

If it’s the former, I don’t have any experience in starting a site like that up, so I can’t answer that.

  • @bi2green

Please define your needs more clearly. I couldn’t assess what sort of sponsorship you are trying to acquire and for what purpose.

Send us details to be able to help.

  • @rich-brooks Hi Rcih, our idea is to create a CrowdFunding site for social and green projects.

We had looked for other CrowdFunding site like Kickstarter, GoFundMe, and other sites like that. In Kickstarter we need to change our idea a little bit in order to be accepted as a project and we are thinking on do it.
What do you recommend if we change our approach to do it?
Thanks, and all the feedback is grate for our Green Startup

  • @eddysleiman thanks for the reply.
    Our goals are:

    1. Find Solar Installation business in order to reduce cost for our installations.
    2. Find Schools that will like to install solar panels in order to reduce cost, generate green awareness in to the kids, and fathers.
    3. Promote business that are investing on education, solar, and green projects.
    4. Generate money to invest in green projects.
That clarify or do you need more info.
    Thanks a lot

  • @bi2green

So basically what you need to do is the following:

1- Define the cost that you need to bare for your project and add a margin of 20% if your figures will change more then 20% then your initial planning is not correct.

2- According to the final figure you will be able to assess how much sponsorship you need to cover your expenses.

3- Be open to different sponsorship scenarios not only targeting cash.

4- the topic you are working on is big and is worth tying it up with one of the big names and the big brands. Every big brand now has a budget to be spent on the environmental awareness.

5- prepare 3 to 4 sponsorship packages and allow some serious exposure for the first 2 and go down gradually and the other.

6- Have some decent communication materials printed with recyclable materials or on digital copies but make sure you play the presentation or you present the material yourself. don;t just leave it on their desk. If you don;t have something to communicate with they won;t take you for serious.

7- Make sure you get a clear feedback and follow up accordingly.

    Good luck!
