So basically what you need to do is the following:
1- Define the cost that you need to bare for your project and add a margin of 20% if your figures will change more then 20% then your initial planning is not correct.
2- According to the final figure you will be able to assess how much sponsorship you need to cover your expenses.
3- Be open to different sponsorship scenarios not only targeting cash.
4- the topic you are working on is big and is worth tying it up with one of the big names and the big brands. Every big brand now has a budget to be spent on the environmental awareness.
5- prepare 3 to 4 sponsorship packages and allow some serious exposure for the first 2 and go down gradually and the other.
6- Have some decent communication materials printed with recyclable materials or on digital copies but make sure you play the presentation or you present the material yourself. don;t just leave it on their desk. If you don;t have something to communicate with they won;t take you for serious.
7- Make sure you get a clear feedback and follow up accordingly.
Good luck!
