Cool new tool: ”If This Then That” (13 posts)

  • I’ve just started playing with this, so I can’t give a complete evaluation yet, but here’s a bit of the article:

“How many online profiles and information sources are you managing in your real estate business? There is a new web service which allows you to create thousands of possible combinations with the phrase “If This Then That”.

Think of all the possibilities you could come up with if you were able to define any task as: when something happens (this) then do something else (that).”

Obviously, the author is in the Real Estate biz himself, but this is by no means limited to that particular niche.

  • Hi Warren.  You were my very first friend here (I think) and it’s good to see you post.

“If This Then That” is possibly the best new tool I’ve seen in a very long time. It spins off of the formulas used in many programs (like Excel and Access, etc.) and all the older programming languages to boot. Many newer languages (probably ALL) have the same or similar capabilities. But you have to be a math whiz or a programmer to utilize and manipulate formulas and programs to do what you want.

A simple tool to do what “If This Then That” does will be a boon for everyone who needs to upgrade, update, keep current many lines of work, including social media.

    Great find Warren.  :D

  • It seems like a neat tool, haven’t tried it though.  Here’s my dilemma.  We put our used inventory of tractors on an online database.  This will automatically update and additional online database.  However, we have a third online database that must be updated manually, and I have to reconcile it on a period basis.  This sounds like the type of tool that should be able to do it……but based on what I’ve seen I doubt it can……unless anyone knows anything different.

  • @warrenveach Such an awesome tool!!!! Thanks you so much! I hope they add more channels quickly.

  • @supereb

Thanks for the kind words. I don’t know that I was ever anybody’s first anything before.

I don’t know all the inner workings of how ittt does what it does, but you are probably correct on the Excel idea. That’s what I first thought of when I saw it, but I’d never know how to make it web-based, so I’m glad they did it. :-)

We’ve been working on launches for our company, and doing some traveling, so I haven’t been able to get on SME as much as I’d like. Just popping in every now and then to see what’s going on and to read a few posts.

Hope to see you around more!

  • @trudyd1474

Wish I could offer more help with this for you, but as I’ve just started playing with it, I don’t know what it’s capabilities are.

I’ll let you know if I find anything out.

  • @amyhallbiz

It does look pretty cool doesn’t it?

It appears to be something even I can use! :-)

  • How’s this for timing!

I just checked my Inbox, and just arriving 15 minutes ago was a SME Newsletter titled, “[SocialMediaExaminer] Mar. 29, 2012, How to Automate Your Social Activities“.

The article starts with, “Are you looking to simplify management of your social activities? If so, then Ifttt is for you.”

I guess I wasn’t the only one impressed by this little tool.

  • Hi Warren and Folks.

Yeah, I saw that too just about the same as you did. I wondered if you had an inside track, or something, on SME’s articles.

Then (just like you) it occurred to me that it is just a coincidence. If things do happen for a reason, I wonder what the reason for this one might be… Heh.

    :D

  • I just got that email too.  I definitely need to check this out.

  • awesome, Warren, will check this out (I just love me some “bright and shiny!”) @warrenveach

  • @warrenveach Great find, Warren. I’ve started a what if list already. Thanks.

  • It is definitely great on some things. Twitter tasks, not so much.
