Choosing The Right COLORS 4 Business or Branding (8 posts)

  • Okay so I wanted to create some chatter around this topic, because its something we are looking at while re-branding. There are 3 main resources I have been looking at to help me make a better decision:

    1. What Your Web Design Says About You (Infographic)
    2. How Color Affects Our Purchases [infographic]
    3. What’s the BEST color for high conversions? (video)

Currently our colors a black, orange and white. What are your colors how did you arrive at them and why ?

  • Thanks for sharing these interesting links, Geoffrey! I also used different resources to learn about the impact of colours.

For my business, I finally chose orange and grey (on white). Orange should represent action, energy, creativity and grey should balance and add some trust, reliability, seriousness.

For a customer of mine, a doctor, I chose dark blue, brown and white. Dark blue for the sterile, clean and serious part of his business, and brown to add some warmth and to support his down-to-earth character.

Besides all theory about colours, I think it’s very important – especially for small businesses – that the business owner can identify himself/herself with the colour. All the positive impact of a colour doesn’t help if the owner hates it and therefore can’t relate to his own CI.

Orange is also my favourite colour ;-)

  • When I chose the colors for my business I was very scientific….I picked what I liked!  Since then, I did come across this inforgraphic and (interestingly enough) the main color I chose (blue) “says” exactly what I want it to say (trustworthy, dependable, secure, responsible).  I will share that infographic with you to add to your arsenal:

That all being said, sometimes I think choosing what you really like has its merits!

  • @geoffrey-gordon LOVED the social triggers video! Now I’ve got to back through my site.

  • I chose black and gold for two reasons:  My business initials are BEE and my “mascot” is a bee, and I’m from Pittsburgh and black and gold are Steelers colors! :)

    Hi Geoffrey.

You shared some good information. Infographics and videos are fun and informative. For some of us this information has been known but the presentation in a stylish update is fantastic.

I’m designing/building a new website now for a client and although the marketplace is loaded with websites for this particular product, I know I’ve chosen the right colors and a design that integrates all the correct nuances for the “buy me” action to take place.

The colors I chose are pink and blue with a hint of purple here and there. Pink (romantic), blue (trustworty) and purple (mystery and passion).  Perfect for the product line as a whole.  Perhaps I can show this site later when the pages are uploaded, we all hope well before Thanksgiving (but don’t hold your breath!).

Thanks again for the updated materials – nice find/share.

    Eileen :D

  • @supereb @amyhallbiz @claudiapoeckl thanks for all of your responses. As you already know color is very important. The wrong colors in the right industry can prevent sales and visitor response to your website.

Thank you all for contributing to this thread. :)

  • when we redid our website  2 yrs ago  i picked  bright  cheery colors, hopefully  reflecting   the  look  my  customers  are  buying….i hope  our  colors  support    what our  brand is…i went for   bright, casual, a little outside the box and  fun….
