Can twitter hashtag campaigns be successful for small business? (7 posts)

    I was told today that I need to start a twitter hashtag campaign yet our company has less than 200 followers on twitter and twitter has not been a focus of our social media efforts to date.  Any advice or experience with twitter hashtag campaigns for small businesses?

    Absolutely – see, if you only have 200 followers that does NOT matter if you begin to use hashtags. Because everyone who knows how to use twitter is aware that to find information on any subject, product or service you use hashtags to find the information.   
    By utilizing hashtags EVERYONE (not just your 200 followers) will be able to find your twitter tweets. Know your niche and use that but DO also go outside your niche to a hobby or two and tweet about those – this may bring new folks into the fold and along with that your direct followers will begin to grow.

    See?  Hashtag campaigns are the very best way to use twitter.

    I honestly believe that hashtags need to be used sparingly. One per tweet, maximum. Otherwise the content of the tweet becomes unreadable.

    We use several tags for the PLF blog because it gets so much more exposure – #recipe #food #cooking – those three always go at the end of the tweet.  Of course for G+ and FB we can put a lot more text and that really helps! 

    HI @dsage – we had a death in the family this week – I’ll be pretty busy the next few days and will take another look this weekend.
