buying and selling from the beginning in America (6 posts)

  • From Day 1 of colonized America, the first thing any group of newcomers started when they hit these shores is commerce. After all, trade is the essence of human interaction outside the family. I need something, you’ve got it, we negotiate, exchange goods and/or money, and make the trade. In our Free Enterprise system this continues today. Thank goodness.

  • @trudy

And I think it might even predate that! Heck, the bible is full of commerce stories. :)

  • @rich-brooks  Hey, I did not even think of that. Great comment.  And from the New Testament we know the money-changers (lenders, loan sharks, payday loans) have been around a  long time and got advertised/discussed for all to see. :)  And I am sure other commerce was in the Temple as well.

  • Nothing has changed…..

“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.” ~Proverbs 22: 7

  • Through the course of time, what has prevented free enterprise? (ie: Israelite in Egyptian slavery?) How can we make sure we continue to have the freedom to buy and sell? @trudy @rich-brooks @dongrandy

  • But Egytions also had a free enterprise system. The American Indians had free enterprise system. This trade/barter/sell/buy seems to have been placed in our DNA for our survival. In answer to your question – 1.Encourage/train on entrereneurship.2.buy products/goods from ethical companies, continue to go after the greedy ones we frequently see in the press who are ruining the enterprise system.3.Encourage creativity/new discoveries for uses of old products/continue to improve systems and processes.  I can probably think of others if pressed. @deairby @dongrandy @rich-brooks
