Brag on yourself!!! Inquiring minds want to know….. (14 posts)

  • Not only is it good to stop and count your successes but it is encouraging to others to know IT CAN BE DONE! So, with that said, please share what goals you have met, what obstacles you have overcome, what awards or notices you have received. And, we can cheer, whoop whoop !!!

  • Thanks Dea for starting this discussion!

Last Friday night I won a lottery slot into the Ironman 70.3 World Championships, being held in Henderson, Nevada on September 9, 2012!!!!!

Blogged about it on my training blog:

    http://ramblingbydesign.blogspot.com/2012/01/ironman-703-world-championship-lottery.html

While on the surface this doesn’t appear to have anything to do with small business, things are not always as they appear.

When I left the full time practice of law in 2005 I felt lost, directionless, like a complete loser. Hearing @mike-stelzner present about white papers in Copywriting Success Summit 2008 made me feel like I could actually have a viable and successful writing business.

One month after hearing Mike’s presentation I finished Silverman, one of the toughest half iron distance races out there (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run).

The connection is that through sport I developed the confidence to be in business.

So when Ironman decreed that the 70.3 World Championships were going to be held here, in my backyard, on the Silverman course, and 25 lottery slots were made available to locals, I had to go for it.

I’m extremely proud to now shout from the rooftops that I’m training for a World Championship — under circumstances designed to make an average athlete’s dreams come true.

And my business is growing every day. :-)

  • @stefaniefrank @deairby   That is so fantastic Stefanie!   I applied for a Fellowship with Echoing Green last month.  Didn’t get it, but it was a great experience that required me to think concisely thru a particular project.  Now I have the outline and greater desire to accomplish it and without the Fellowship.  I count that as success.

  • Way to go, Stefanie! That is inspiring to all of us! Keep us up to date on how you are doing. Thanks. @stefaniefrankAbsolutely a success, Trudy. Stepping outside our “box” to attempt more than we think is always a stretching but beneficial thing. A deadline and goal to aim for is a great motivator. Thanks for sharing. @trudy

  • @trudy @stefaniefrank @deairby It is always good to hear of others accomplishments. It makes it more believable that you will accomplish your own goals. I am proud to have put in years of learning and work in putting together a 3d animated cartoon, practically single handed. It’s wonderful to see a dream coming true.

  • Congrats on your accomplishment. Yes, it might take years, but finally getting there is such a reward. Persistence! @durkbarton

  • 100% success there @trudy congratulations on reaching for it and then finding motivation to continue what you’re doing without it that’s huge!

@durkbarton that’s fabulous, congratulations — so glad your dream is coming true.

@deairby thank you for the support :-)

  • how is the training going for the run? @stefaniefrank

  • A lot of great goals and great strides. What is life without goals and achievements? We set them for ourselves, our families and our careers. It is what pushes us to be better, and to overcome life’s obstacles. I have been told that I was too young or to naive to make a difference. At 22 years old I have started 3 successful companies. I do not claim to be the best, I do claim that I associate myself with the best. If you are the greatest person in the room how are you going to get better. Business is all about growth, never staying satisfied with last years profits, it is a businesses job to always increase stockholders equity. I believe life is the same. Once I feel that I have come close to something I always look to build my equity further. I felt very comfortable in traditional marketing so I learned social. I have had great results with social marketing. After I built a business using Facebook almost exclusively I decided to start in mobile. Now, we have a company that offers mobile development. I love hearing about others peoples success stories. I invite you all to connect with me here and/or facebook. I have started doing work at some of the local universities helping other young people do what I have done and see that it is possible. Trust me nothing more inspiring then some of the students I meet with at the local community college. Want to see hungry students go to a class room full of entrepreneurs.

  • cut ad spend in half last year over previous year (2011 vs 2010)… improved page rank a couple points… doubled orders & revenue (2011 vs 2010)… all of this while having to close down one site to re-open under a different name (we lost our biggest provider contract & while we were able to secure a new one, the stipulation was that the old site was buh-bye) & I haven’t a clue how I’m going to do that again!

The old platform had some different services available, while we’re trying to get those back… they’ve made the process a lot more difficult. So we’ll be trying to repeat with a lesser offering, gonna be tough!

  • This is not (yet) a success story but it may be of interest and I think is appropriate here. I studied and achieved my honours degree in psychology as a mature student. I then worked with adults with behavioural problems until (as I was a reservist) I was called up for the conflict in Iraq. Whilst I was out there the company I worked for went bust (nothing to do with me being missing)

On my return we bought our place in France and started to build the business.I think we have a unique selling point in that we offer people almost 4 acres including a private lake for people to enjoy all to themselves at ordinary camping prices.

I am confident that once people hear about this and check out our place the business will be successful and would like to thank socialmediaexaminer and everyone here for helping me with this.

If you would like any more details please feel free to message me or visit our website at http://www.activity-holidays.net (I`d appreciate feedback about the website and indeed our business)

wishing you all ongoing success in your endeavoursIan

  • @chrisloeser Sounds like you have some difficult taks but you are doing a great job in dealing with them. The bigest thing I tell students, and young entrepreneurs is “do not get discouraged”. The challenges are what makes us smart business people. Discouragement, will cloud our judgement and slow our reaction time. So keep with it and no doubts you’ll make great outcomes.

  • @deairby it’s going great thanks for asking! 15 weeks until my first 70.3 of the year, Ironman Boise 70.3. http://ironmanboise.com/

It’s a challenge at times to stay motivated and balance everything but it’s so worth it!

  • Great work, congrats, and thanks for sharing @ryrussell @chrisloeser @lacducoeur
