Book Club – Book Review #2 is ”Launch” (7 posts)

  • Hello folks,

We started a book club here on SME clubs. In fact, you may want to catch up with this thread about it: Interested in joining SBBC – Small Business Book Club?

The first book review was on Content Rules, co-authored by Ann Handley & C.C. Chapman. Check here for the thread on Content Rules

This thread here is thus to discuss Launch, by Michael Stelzner. We will look into holding a hangout on Google+ to discuss this book, so for those of you interested in this, please send me a private message so that I can have your email address to send out the Hangout invite.

    @stefaniefrank Still interested in moderating?

Any questions or suggestion on logistics for this book club, please comment directly on the other thread: Interested in joining SBBC – Small Business Book Club?

So, without further ado, who has read Michael Stelzner’s Launch?
What chapters did you prefer and why?
How would you compare this book with Content Rules? How are they different?

Curious to hear your thoughts… Fire away, folks! :-)

  • Sorry I went AWOL on Content Rules, Frederic. I totally crashed, or rather my computer did, and I’ve been dealing with the fallout ever since. I don’t want to miss out on the Launch discussion if I can help it.

Do you have an idea about a date yet?

  • Well for starters, Launch is just amazing! Got my copy signed by Mike at BlogWorld LA back in Nov :)

I haven’t read Content Rules yet, but I will. As for my favorite chapters in Launch – I’d have to say chapter 6 “Making Content the Fuel of You Marketing” especially the portion on ‘what makes for great content?’ This helped me figure out the best way to draft our blog posts, downloadable reports, etc. so that they would be downloaded and read more often. I was able to then read others content and pinpoint exactly what was missing and what they needed in order to make that content gold. This helped a lot with content creation for our customers who went from 0-1 readers per week to 15-20 readers.

Also the premise and formula of what made SME so successful – giving away content and knowledge for free, truly free, not asking anything in return. I started to use this approach more often and noticed a larger response to my posts on Facebook and LinkedIn. Pretty cool stuff – this book is a MUST read!

  • @fredericgonzalo yes I’m still interested in moderating the March discussion!

@ferrisstith I continually refer to the appendix examples in the book and, like you say, it really helps me to guide my clients in their content development — and my own as well!

    Cheers,
    Stef

  • so sad I missed the first one, will pm you to get on “the list” @fredericgonzalo

  • @atlantarobin Hello Robin! No idea for a date, yet, but I will suggest a few potential time and dates, and we’ll what sticks with the majority. You can send me a private message with your email address and I shall keep you in the loop.

@ferrisstith Thank for your feedback, that’s great. Haven’t got to chapter 6 yet, so I look forward to it… :-)

@stefaniefrank Excellent! I shall PM you some details and we’ll take it from there.

@deairby Cool. Will get in touch!

Now if I can get my reading done it will make this a lot easier, I can’t get past chapter 2 without getting interrupted around here, March Break and all… ;-)
Will get there, and I look forward to sharing this book review with you all.

    Cheers,

  • @fredericgonzalo

I love the book! It has lots of great advice. However, I am super busy, so I wont able to attend the hangout.  I look forward to future ones though!
