Are you using gamification? (8 posts)

  • There is a great article in the recent SME newsletter: http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/26-elements-of-a-gamification-marketing-strategy/I was just wondering if anyone is already using this strategy or plans to use it in the near future or even if you have never heard of it….Would love to hear from you on this most amazing example of the use of gamification! What’s your badge?

  • i read  that  too…and   figure its  not  for us….  our site is about our   stuff and thats what i  think the   customers  like..i dont  really need incentives or   games  or   prizes…in  fact  there are a lot of  reasons  not to have all that  i think…

but im selling and  targeting    women home owners and  busy  shop keepers   not  gaming  guys…or  people who  play the   huge   amount of  faceboook   games   for hours and hours…for them it would  probably apply  a lot  more…

also i  like to make the  buyers  feel that they came  today…and they are getting the  best  deal…and  they didnt have to do anything  but  SHOW UP AT THE STORE    to  get it…since i dont   game or  coupon clip its a pet peeve to me  to   be  someplace and  see  someone else   getting a  better deal  because they did all that stuff..jmho

  • @deairby

    It’s me again :)

Right here in the SME clubs. They’re using Gameification. See for yourself

This is a great way to get us Club members to participate more.

How well do you feel it’s working here in the clubs?

Do you think it fosters participation?

How many of you participate in hopes to increase your ranking?

Here’s a good slideshhow I’ve shared about Gamification. It comes from an SEOMoz Whiteboard Friday. [http://www.slideshare.net/righthatseo/gamification-11821720]

This presentation is what sparked my interest in Gameification. It’s a genius idea. It’d be huge if you can figure a way to use it in your business.

  • @tysonstevens I noticed that we have a gaming system right here… but I try to reign myself in from posting everywhere to gain points. But I LOVE watching the big +5, +10, or +20 pop up. I go “Yeah Points Per Second (PPS) is on the rise! I’m going for the end game purplez!”*

    * = World of Warcraft references for you non-gamer geeks out there :)

  • i do not post  to  get higher ranking…..  since  you   all arent my  customers and  being a   big poster on here witha  cool  badge    probably wouldnt impress  my  customers..

im  here  for YOUR  great   thoughts and words!!!  ..

we  did  do a game in the store once…anything witha star on it was  1/2  off and i must  say it was a lot of  fun  …great  response… so im  trying to be open to this idea…

  • @jasonreilly *Like* lol and I’ve not seen the +20. WOW :) Just today I saw a +10 and thought, “Cool. Didn’t know they did that.”

@annfurnivall It’s not for impressing really. It’s fun to see my rank go up. Just like in real life games, I like seeing the progress. I think it fosters participation.

I think Gamification is a great idea. Take real world events (i.e. anything with a star on it was 1/2 off) and turn that into a virtual game on your site.

If you have an e-commerce site, maybe take that star idea and say:

“Everyone! We’re having an online game for all to enjoy. Find the product with the gold star and win …. or …find the product with the gold star and get 80% off!!”

Something like that. It’d need to be fleshed out, but more of the idea of taking real world marketing and turning it into virtual/online marketing.

  • @annfurnivall @deairby

For some people it’s about the company, for some it’s about the points, and for a lot of us it’s a combination.

Of course, I can’t get on the leader board, so I guess I’m just doing it out of my desire to list Club Leader on my LI profile. ;)

That being said, it’s hard NOT to get a little jazzed when you see that +10 go up…and here we go!

  • @rich-brooks I agree, it is a mix of reasons people do it. I try to make sure I’m actually posting in topics that I agree with/like. I’d rather know that I was making a positive and direct impact for the cool people that live here.

At the same time, when I’m bored, it is fun to take a look at my point totals and dream of end game social media raiding :D
