Are you using Foursquare (or similar location-based apps) to promote your business or do networking?

I find I tend to use Foursquare mostly for personal reasons, although I have left tips around town to increase our visibility.

If you have a retail shop do you have Foursquare in your marketing plan? If so, how?

I use it to promote local businesses.  Since I do Social Media Marketing as part of my services, I check-in where I am buying – if the business doesn’t have an account on Foursquare I show them how it works, the benefits and offer to set it up for them.  Sometimes I get a client from that – sometimes not – but they thank me for introducing them to Foursquare and I have had some recommendations for my Social Media Services.  Very important in my small city whose population grows due to tourism and a stop for those travelling north to cottage country in the summer and ski resorts in the winter.  Most of those tourists have smart phones.
