Anyone use Box Shot? (8 posts)

  • I tried a search on this topic but nothing came up that I could see.  I was looking for an easy way to create e-book and cd cover graphics.  Is Box Shot easy to use or am I better off hiring someone?  I’m not great with graphics.

Always a pleasure to see you swing over here, Andrea!

Although I have an inhouse creative director, for something simple like an e-book cover I’ve gone over to Fiverr and gotten good results.

For five bucks you can get a decent cover within a day or two. Just search for e-book cover.

    Hope that helps!

  • Definitely makes sense to try out Fiverr rather than mess with new softward, @rich-brooks – great idea, thanks!

  • Yes, I hate messing w/new softward, @andrea-vahl. ;)

Just a word of caution about using Fiverr… many on there are not professional designers and they are from different countries with different copyright laws. If you are just doing a text cover, than there is not issue.
You can get lucky, there are some on there that know what they are doing but if it’s a project you are truly vested in I would hire a professional. If it is something you do often team up with a freelance designer and make a deal on a per piece cover.

  • if you’re unhappy with Fiverr… you could always try eLance, I did a few things for clients I met through that site right out of college, trying to build up my portfolio

  • I use to use boxshot, and it was very good… However, I would only recommend it these days if you actually have a software product, or ebook etc, anything that is not really a digital good, the box shots (I think) are a little outdated and cheesy.  I prefer to use video demonstrations (screencasts) these days.  They seem to be the in thing.

  • Update: If you are thinking of using this type of software I recommend True box shot, its very easy to use http://www.trueboxshot.com/ (actually, I thought this is what you were talking about, but maybe it isnt).  This software I have linked to, is very very easy to use.
