Anybody still uses Blackberry? (8 posts)

  • As a Canadian, it’s been a sad story to see the slow decline of Research in Motion (RIM) and its almighty Blackberry device over the past couple of years. Once a dominant player, it simply never was able to react to the coming of Apple’s iPhone, then Google launching its Android platform across many devices.

Today, it was announced that co-founders & co-CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis stepped down and there is a new CEO in place. So my question: is it too late? How many of you still use Blackberry in your company? Do you think this is a new beginning, or just a blip on the downhill trend?

  • Well, I never used a Blackberry and if they (RIM) have not kept focused and Up to date that is sad. So many I know used Blackberry and then switched to Apple and then to Andriod. I use Android as I am not personally an Apple follower.

  • @Frederic, I was one of the last hold outs…switched to an IPhone last week.  I did a lot of research before switching, but in our business of ‘social media’ I don’t think the Blackberry has kept up to speed.

  • @fredericgonzalo The company I work for is doing a phase out of Blackberry and incorporating the iPhone. I believe the problems of RIM over the past two years is signaling to every company that they need to phase out the device.

Personally, I switched from a Blackberry to an iPhone a few weeks ago and haven’t regretted it for a second. While it’s taken some getting used (the keyboard specifically), the differences are amazing and confirms my belief that RIM won’t be around after 2012.

  • @sbush @charlynshelton-socialmediainterpreter Yeah, I hear you both. Same for me, I was a Blackberry power user between 2000 and 2011, but already, between 2009 and 2011 I had switched to a newer model that I did not particularly like. So since the company I was working for switched to iPhones, back in April 2011, I have not had a single regret ever since.

The writing is on the wall, as they say…

  • I’m still holding on to my BBerry but the only reason is because I’m awful at typing on the iPhone and my tablet.  I guess I just can’t get used to not having a little button under my fingers when I type.  That said, I’m considering an iPhone because we design, create and sell mobile websites, mobile apps and social media marketing products/services.

    Cheers!

  • My husband works for the Texas Department of Public Safety and they have given him a Blackberry. He hates it!

I had a Blackberry as my first smartphone, back in 2008, but I didn’t do many “smart” things with it.

I eventually graduated to the iPhone (her name is Persnickety Pat) and have never looked back. The ease of use and level of app development is superb.

I’d consider going Android only if my iPhone betrayed me in some dark and serious way.

  • If we were to seal blackberry’s fate solely on this thread, I’d say its future looks glim… Thank you all for the feedback. The question now lies before us: not if, but when will blackberry go under, or be bought as part of a strategic merger…
