Android Tethering App (14 posts)

  • Hello all,

I am looking for an Android tethering app which allows you to log into secure sites. Basically, full internet access. I am not looking for a hotspot or any app that requires a hack on the phone. I’d like to hear suggestions of an app you’ve used or that you are very familiar with. I’m also looking for a paid version. Thanks in advance! :)

  • @jamesalonso I have used PDA Net to tether my laptop to my Droid. Haven’t used it in awhile but it did work.

  • @joanmuschampfagnani I’ve also used PDA Net but only had the free app back then. A friend suggested Easy Tether but looking for more suggestions. Thanks.

  • I’ve been using this PDAnet 3.50  for nearly 3 years and have went to the paid version for my latest phone the Droid 3 and it has a newer tool for making the phone a wi-fi hotspot.

    Some phones this won’t work.

But is a really good tool..I’ve used it with both desktops and laptops with not one glitch.

Well worth the paid version for secure sites as well.

  • Thanks for the info, @tonygreene113. :)

  • I use easy tether pro on my droid bionic and it works like a charm

  • Thanks, Robin. That’s the one my friend suggested and he said the same thing.

  • @jamesalonso I use PDA Net paid app and have no issue. I did the one time app payment and that’s all and I have no issue and I am able to securely connect to our VPN and secure sites. I use the app at least a couple times each week.
Plus I love having the SMS intercept that I can stay connected and respond to any text messages through the computer while connected. Calls break the connection but that is it! I LOVE this app!

  • Thanks so much, @alexandrabriggs. These recommendations are great. Thank you all.

  • Hi @alexandrabriggs & @tonygreene113, I was looking in the android marketplace for pda net 3.5 and I am only seeing their free version which now supports pads too. Is this the app you guys use or is there another paid version of pda net in the marketplace?

  • @jamesalonso the free version in marketplace is there as a placeholder, best to get it directly from the site that I linked to above.

Carriers are trying to have it removed from marketplace due to its “ability” to hide tether usage by stripping out the header.

Once you dload to your computer, it will then be added to your device once you attach usb cable.

  • Thanks for the clarification, @tonygreene113. :)

  • Thank you all again for your help. PDA Net (paid version) is fantastic. Hotspot works on all devices as well (Android 4.0.1 or higher required).

  • We use PDA net paid version have for years now Love it
