a business using pinterest…. (16 posts)

  • today i had a customer in…shes a  decorator and party planner…she    loves pinterest and has  used  it    with a  couple of  big weddings…. she said  she  would make a pinterest  board  for  the  event  then  she and the  bride would  pin  pictures and ideas   they liked and work out the ideas  using  the  pinterest  board  as  a   major part of the  process.. …she  really likes it..

.also  she was like me and liked  how  easy it was to organize  your pictures  compared to the old  ways  with files…

  • @annfurnivall Thank you for sharing! I have a friend planning her wedding and she has been religiously on Pinterest since pre-engagement. It is a great tool for following along and helping generate ideas!
I haven’t found a way to use it for our business quite yet but I am not giving up brainstorming! Your post made me think of the article posted by SME earlier this week. Thought you might want to check it out http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/26-tips-for-using-pinterest-for-business/

  • @alexandrabriggs  thanks  …i  get his page  all the time.. that was a good link..

  • “pintrest, pintrest, pintrest!” Jan Brady. get it?

  • girls just want to have fun…thats how i look at it…. @jasonwiser lol…its  the millions of users that has  the  big  guys  so interested…

.how about searching out  and  seeeing if anyone in your  field is   piling up   followers AND  MAINLY getting  repinned……. it  really might not  be  for everybody…the parts i see are  very   visual, and  arty and  women babies fashion and  food…i wouldnt  go there for serious  info on  tekk or web  stuff.i would  come here  or  go to one of  the  great  blogs out there…..but maybe  some would.

  • @annfurnivall  I’ve heard there maybe some issues with image copyrights on Pinterest. I have an account, but haven’t really used it yet. The other challenge with Pinterest is that you can’t promote yourself and that’s what most of us with businesses want to do.

  • @amyhallbiz  im  promoting   the store on pinterest…and  getting lots of hits to my website.its a  big  tool…im a retail store…..  and its part of the culture of my  customers….

so far i dont worry about the image issues…. its  so  rampant  i figure   if its a problem  pinterest  better telll  someone….  i do  dislike how  grey the promoting part is….pinterest says no   but they have a gift section   for things with  prices, big  brands   use it, and  pinterest   had a webinar  on how to sell on there within  their  rules…with a wink…so  i dont know  what they are really saying….

i dont put prices on my  items   but mainly   because i  thnk its against the  pinterest   mood and  atmosphere…. they can get to me easily if they  want to….

if  you are  serving   customers within the  big  pinterest  categories[women, shoppping, decorating, weddings  ,babies, food, art, diy, fashion,} etc etc  i think you   will  be missing  something huge  for them if  you dont  get  them involved…. its a  big   plus  for  our store and i can say for sure on   the minds of  my  customers, women…

just  guessing  but i doubt if  social media  businesses  will have big   success  being on pinterest…but that  doesnt mean  you   shouldnt   send  your  fashion boutique  owner customers to it….i go to  pinterest    for  eyecandy not   tekk info…i come here and other laces   for that….

  • That is all true, but as the saying goes, “Every pictures tells a thousand people my URL.”
OK well maybe I just made that up, but you get my point. Of course in your industry, @annfurnivall the strategy is more obvious. But @amyhallbiz you can attach any URL to any photo. Do you use clever images on your blog? Pin it from your URL. So it’s a dog wearing glasses with a cute caption, it still has the back link. The possibilities are endless. And I love that I am one of the few guys on Pintrest. ( And I love that there are many other SM consultants that share your view @amyhallbiz, less compitetion. )

  • @jasonwiser .lol….  pinterest is obvious  for my business…right…thats why  im so happy with it…

i do follow a couple of  guys….  one  builds  great  junk   chandeliers   the other   likes  tatoos and   is a great  photographer….

can you  explain the   copyright concerns?  is it about  people   claiming   work that isnt theirs…or  just  republishing  work?  seems like the latter  is happening all ofver the internet all the time…from utube jokes to   cute pictures… to etsy pictures…..

  • I don’t know about the copyright issues. I am insistent to never use something that i am not certain about its CC status. And on thing i see a lot of is people saving the photo, and re-posting as their own, instead of just re-pinning. As if to somehow hope to capture the potential virality as their own. If this is illegal or not I don’t know, but it is just poor taste.

  • @jasonwiser thats  how i fee l too.and i  dont repin   with my   url…

..the issue  seems to  be  buzzing  around some right now….i would like to see s ome real  examples ….

    …

  • I feel that currently the best response that I get in social marketing is from Pinterest.

Also since we have about 7 million stock photos I found out that many images in Pinterest are actually taken from our site.

  • On Pinterest – Like it fine.  Do have new requests often (but don’t know exactly why) and repins too.

I don’t spend time there as yet, just a few times. But I can see how it flows and how someone with big plans (wedding, baby, anniversary) might find ideas and what they need there.

Photographers, artists and the like will have a great time and heyday at Pinterest.

I’m having a harder time seeing the benefit for my business but love perusing the boards of other people. SO, can see the benefit for them. I pinned the three clubs here on my hangout board too.

I have to spend more time and catch on a little better. Heh.

  • @jasonwiser @annfurnivall @webstockpro The wording of copyright law is pretty clear, guys: “No reuse or reproduction of this material, (sic), without the express, written consent of the copyright owner.” It may be slightly paraphrased but it is accurate. The real question is the owner and their choice to pursue enforcement. With the exception of you, Noam, everyone who sees their content on another site/page can immediately dash off a letter to, “cease”, the use of their content.

  • its not  clear at all to me…i have  pinned   over  1500 items…

  • @everyone on this thread : )
If your target market falls within the demographics below, Pinterest offers a huge opportunity for you. If not, you’ll most likely experience mass amounts of traffic with little to no conversion, as happened to one of my clients.
As of 3/5/2012 Pinterest demographics include:

    • 79% Female
    • 81% Ages 25-54 (total users)
    • 70% Household income $25,000-74,999  (total users)
    • Fashion designers and collections biggest audience interest (or should I say Pinterest)
    • Majority of users from western and mid-western states  (total users)
There are many clothing apparel companies that are experiencing the high volumes of referral traffic from Pinterest.
