Do you like going to conferences? Real or virtual?
I’ve got a few already booked. By far, the one I’m most excited for is the first ever Social Media Marketing World! (And not just because I do a lot of work for Social Media Examiner!)
It really does look like an amazing event, and different than a lot of other conferences. Plus, it’s in sunny San Diego in April, and this morning it was 1 degree in Maine!! So by April, I’m ready for some sun.
I’m heading out to NMX (formerly Blogworld) on Saturday…anyone else going? I’m not speaking, but I’m hoping to do some serious networking, listen to some new presenters, and connect with old friends.
I’m blowing off SXSW this year. Love Austin–the food, the music, the scene–but I never really learn anything there.
I’m also looking forward to putting on my 2nd annual Agents of Change Digital Marketing Conference in September, but that’s so far off.
There’s also the Content Success Summit, SME’s virtual event coming up in February, which should be great, but no travel.
What else do you have on your plans for this year? What should I consider going to?

I’ve not gotten on a commercial air flight since 9/11. It’s not that flying is scary, it’s not. It’s that I cannot abide the search. My son has traveled for years for his work and last year he told me he was never getting on a commercial flight again, regardless the circumstances or consequences. I would still do private flights though, when there are some I can get passage on. I simply cannot abide the intrusive attention given to life long U.S. citizens who are traveling for business and do so frequently.
I’ve not gone to any shows since that time but do attend online conferences. Right now, I don’t have plans to attend any shows I’ve seen listed for this year so far. I’ve attended one here at Social Media Examiner but the circumstances would not let me attend each and every day, and I still have to catch up on that one!
I do watch for items I think will be useful to me and I catch as many pod-casts and interviews as possible when I run across those I think will provide some new knowledge.

@rich-brooks I wish that I could get out to more. I do get to go to my work’s industry conference at the end of April However, if I had the resources, I would probably hit SXSW, ASAE’s Annual Conference and a SME conference. Oh I will probably be volunteering again at Social Media For Nonprofits when it rolls back into DC.
