woobox vs iframes (10 posts)

  • dear colleagues.. when i started to put apps into my facebook page, without knowing it, facebook directed me to use woobox apps.  They seem to be easy to use and i really like them.. They have all kinds of apps from coupons to sweepstakes to regular tabs.  Does anybody else out there know the difference between woobox or iframes.  It said on my facebook page that woobox was the preferred apps and never mentioned iframes.

    any comments would be appreciated…

  • @avatar1919 I use woobox as well for a couple of tabs because it handles all the coding. I believe that “iframes” is more of a programming language w/in Facebook and is now Fbml (a take on HTML). SME’ers correct me if I’m wrong!

  • hi kristy

i think fbml is being phased out and being replaced by iframes..

    yes i like woobox..thanks

  • Hi guys,

@kc_kreative FBML has already been phased out. It was a hybrid programming language for Facebook and it is no longer available. Iframes is the process of how you get a tab to show in Facebook and is not a specific product. You can iframe pages or elements of a page into normal websites as well.

If you embed a youtube video using the youtube code it will be in the form of an iframe.

Woobox is simply a brand that provides different types of facebook tabs.

There are several free tab providers that have “iframes” in their name but just understand iframes is a process not a product, although some providers play on the name by including it in their brand or product name.

  • thanks scott..

  • @scottlinklater Thanks! I get them mixed up still :)

  • @scottlinklater

    Great explanation!

  • Thanks  @helenazwarts  :)

  • The confusion might have been caused by the fact that Woobox’s custom tab installation app is called Static iFrame Tab App.  We have a new calendar app that we recommend to use Woobox to install it as a custom tab.  Here’s how: http://www.teamup.com/products/teamup-calendar/documentation/embedding-into-facebook.html.  It would be great to hear your feedback if you could give it a try.  Thanks.

  • Real easy explanation of an iframe… Think of it as a window.  You have a website set up somewhere in the web, and then use an iframe to display that website or portion of somewhere else.

So if I am on a Facebook tab, I am looking through an iframe “window” at a different website, and yes, all Facebook tabs are hosted off of Facebook.

    Hope that makes sense.
