Will fb timeline on fanpages hurt the fanpage builders? (13 posts)

  • With all the talk about facebook converting fan pages to the Timeline theme, I’m wondering how it will affect the Fanpage builders like ShortStack, Lujure, Pagemodo, etc.

Many of the “builders” are based on the ability to add multiple tabs and such, but reportedly, tabs are going away and being turned into boxes on the brand’s Timeline.

Has anyone heard anything from their fanpage builders about the changes and how they will be adjusting?

  • I have not seen an expected roll out date for that. What date have you seen  @warrenveach

Two days ago, Mashable reported, “Citing “executives briefed on Facebook’s plans,” Ad Age is reporting that Facebook will use its Feb. 29 conference for marketers in New York to announce the initiative. Facebook will start in beta with a “handful of brands,” says Ad Age.”

Here’s the link to Mashable’s article:

  • thanks for being on top of this, good to know @warrenveach

It appears that the tabs feature will be going away. I’m not sure how all this will affect the pages, but we’ve taken the customized look to our page down until we see what facebook is going to do.

It’s interesting that some companies, like Coke, will be able to plug in a date on their timeline all the way back to 1899 (or something like that) instead of when they joined facebook, just like I can put in my birth date which is obviously waaaaaay before facebook.:-)

  • When I was reading, it seemed that the tab items would become boxes but wouldn’t you still be able to select which page your “unliked” page opened to?  With that, you might still be able to use the html features that happen with ShortStack and Static HTML.  I need to read more.  Thanks @warrenveach for the post.

When I read that, I started dreaming up how I was going to create a new image for all of the pages I admin for their cover photo.

  • Yes i am sure curious as well to find out what is going to happen with the tabs. There are a lot of marketers including me running companies business pages and at the moment does worry me not knowing how the exiting pages are going to be handled.

I suppose we just need to wait and see, but if someone closer to FB have some information it will be greatly apprciated

  • I think that Apps will be available in some way @warrenveach and I don’t think that it will have a huge affect on them if it’s in a box or on the sidebar but I could be wrong.  Not all that long ago the Apps moved from the “tabs” to the left sidebar and I expect that this will be a similar type of thing that we all have to get used to.  Just less than 2 weeks and we’ll know for sure!

  • thanks for keeping us up to date @warrenveach @andrea-vahl

  • I’m worried about this but trying to not freak out too much until I see what actually will be changed. I really enjoy using shortstack right now to make my clients custom pages and I hope I can continue to in the future. I could see them making the tabs boxes on the timeline but I don’t see how that will look nice, I hope I’m wrong.

  • @warrenveach, I would certainly expect for Apps to continue to be available but in a different form. A main revenue stream for Facebook is apps. At that Feb 29th conference, I would expect us to get more news and information.
Don’t worry just yet. The timeline change could be a good thing.

  • @deereinhardt

I really don’t know how the change will affect the ability to have a “fan gate” or landing page, but I’m looking forward to the changes and challenges!

  • Ladies and gentlemen, there’s no need to worry or speculate about what changes is the timeline for pages going to be until facebook make an official announcement at the end of the month. In the meantime, the show must go on.
