Will Facebook cancel my account? (11 posts)

  • I run 40-50 social accounts for clients at my job and just recently was told by a fan that Facebook would close this account because FB doesn’t allow promoting in the cover page? I was under the impression that you couldn’t tell people to buy things in the cover? All I have in the cover is a twitter bird stating to follow us on twitter as I run that social account as well.
Do you think this is against their terms? If so why would they allow anyone to post anything about other social media sites on FB at all… isn’t having a Twitter tab in reality the same thing?
I have never heard of accounts being closed for cross promoting for another social media website, have any of you?

Yes, that is a clear call to action. You already have your twitter account in the about us section, so I’d remove it entirely from the cover image.

  • Sorry, Jim.  I’ve heard they’re pretty strict.  Here are the rules:

Cover images must be at least 399 pixels wide and may not contain:

    • Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”
    • Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section
    • References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features
    • Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”

All cover images are public, which means anyone visiting your Page will be able to see the image you choose. Covers must not be false, deceptive or misleading, and must not infringe on third parties’ intellectual property. You may not encourage or incentivize people to upload your cover image to their personal timelines.

  • @clusterwebdesign Thats a shame because it looks nice :) But I guess I understand the reasoning behind it. Thanks for the update, looks like I have a lot of new cover photos to make!

  • @asearfoss thank you as well, I could see this then – I guess it is in some way considered “other information intended for your Page’s About section”

  • Jim….I too manage many Facebook business pages and it is very clear what you can and cannot do….sorry but you will need to remove the Twitter icon.

  • Thanks everyone!

  • @diannebeatoncgacaps our leader, andrea has the twitter icon  on her  cover…???but no  call to  do anything..

  • @startmywebpage Yes, it is unfortunate and I just heard that someone’s cover photo was deleted and they got a message from Facebook saying that it was against the terms.  The good news is the Page wasn’t deleted outright, just the picture.

Like  @annfurnivall said, I have a Twitter icon on my cover photo but no address or “Follow me” call to action.  But I think it makes more sense for you to put that info somewhere else.  You could even have it in the About area with a link to your Twitter profile.  It’s ok to have the info there.

  • @startmywebpage

It’s “Follow me on Twitter” and the twitter handle.

  • So far there’s nothign been said about the profile pic – so you could creative thre.  Or the photo app shows the latest picture uploaded – another area to get created – or any of the other “”fetured” apps could have an interesting image – such as follow us on twitter……
