widget, pluggin, app??? (4 posts)

  • So, I’m in the middle of a large learning curve….aarrggghhh. Can someone define and compare what a widget is, a pluggin is and an app is? How are they alike and how are they different? Are they used for different platforms?

  • @deairby To the best of my understanding an app is the actual application. Such as Shortstack. A widget is a program or feature within the application such as the form widget for example in Shortstack a plugin is an extension or add on to the program or application that is optional and can be added/installed separately. Iv read ur posts about Shortstack before so I used it as an example hoping it makes it easier to understand :D I hope this helps.

  • @deairby  Yes, @sgsrecording is right.  An App is something that you can install on your Facebook page (like ShortStack).  The Widget term is not really used in Facebook but may be used within an App itself.  Widgets are used more in the Blog world and there it’s Widgets and Plugins.

I wrote a post that helps clear up what an App is here:   http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/how-to-find-and-add-facebook-apps-to-your-facebook-page/  Hope that helps.

  • Thank you for being patient and answering my simple questions! There is just so much to take in and process that sometimes it all spins around. @sgsrecording @andrea-vahl
