Why won’t Facebook let me name and spell my page the way I want? (3 posts)

  • Need some advice please. I’m creating a Facebook page for a TEDx event (TEDxRockCreekPark). However, FB won’t let me name the page the way that TED.com requires us to (very strict user guidelines on naming conventions). Got this message: Our automated system will not allow the name “TEDxRockCreekPark”. We have suggested “Tedxrockcreekpark”. I read the rules under “Why was my page name rejected,” however, there are other TEDx FB pages that have names with non-standard capitalization (i.e., TEDxRecifeAntigo; TEDxUniversityofEdinburgh; TEDxShibinelKom). Any ideas what to do? Can I contact FB for a special dispensation (how do I do that?).

  • @vicki-corson Have you had any luck with this? I cannot figure out why you may be having issue with this. @Andrea-Vahl have you heard of this issue before?

  • @vicki-corson @alexandrabriggs  Very frustrating, I thought I posted a response here.  Oh wait – found it – it was also on the SME Facebook Page :)  So here’s the response plus a little more.

I would create the Page as is and then try renaming it. You can go into the Facebook Help area under Pages and contact them with your branding information. You should be able to get it changed. http://www.facebook.com/help Then go into a Bug report. Hope that helps!

You should be able to petition Facebook to change it because that is your brand but it may take several help inquiries.  You may also want to go through the advertising route and say you’d like to advertise the Page but you can’t name it properly and don’t want to advertise a non-standard branded page.  Does that help?
