When’s the next ”Facebook”? (10 posts)

  • How long do you think Facebook will last before people move on to a new and better social site?

  • @matthewoneill With 850 million users I think Facebook will be a fixture in social media for a while. Google+ is trying to compete and has some nice features but I’m afraid it may be a “first to market” situation. Of course, this is entirely my opinion and we’ll only know with time!

  • @matthewoneill I believe Facebook will be on for a very long time. No doubt other social networks are coming out; but the main factor is doing something completely different from what’s currently available. Even though we talk about change all the time, the truth is not everyone likes changing where they are thriving to try something else from scratch. Let’s see how it goes though; I believe social media is still a baby.

  • I tend to agree that Facebook will not be replaced any time soon. It will, one day, be replaced but indeed it’s 850 million users, individual and brands alike, make it a force that cannot be easily displaced. As long as they continue to evolve and adapt, which they seem to be doing (sometimes ruffling many feathers, but hey…), they will maintain leadership.

The real question is perhaps: who will seriously give it a run for its money? Google+ is the most serious contender, but it still lacks the almighty stickiness…

  • I think Facebook will be around for awhile @matthewoneill but Pinterest definitely has people talking.  It’s not the same though but it’s pretty cool :)

  • I fully believe Facebook is here to stay – I really can’t imagine not having it right now.

  • Facebook will stay as long as they will developing it. New things keep users on :)

  • I totally agree with Joann. I think that at least half us current users (over 400 mil people) would feel lost without Facebook. Including me :)

  • Kids never like doing what their parents do…Facebook was just for college students, then kids joined on, then parents.  I don’t think it will last much longer (a few years) because children are not going to want to log onto something that their parents are on and can monitor what they are doing.

  • Agree that it will be popular for a long time. Read recently that some of the experts however are predicting it will peak between 2013 and 2015, whatever that means to us.
