When does a FB page posting show up in someones feed? (10 posts)

  • Hi,

I’m running this music community on FB (Deep Disco) but I’m getting complaints from people that my page postings don’t show on their feed sidebar.
I assume that FB somehow decides what’s relevant to you (which I find somewhat disturbing tbh) and will show up on your feed. So how does this work?

  • I’ve noticed something similar; I’ve had notifications that someone posted on my wall, but regardless of whether I’m using the page as the page (PaintedHill), or using the page as administrator, I don’t see the post…

    Hi Rolf,

Posts become visible when people engage with your page/posts.  If they’re not visiting your page & engaging (liking, sharing or commenting) with your posts, they likely won’t see them in their feeds.

    Hi Renee,

Your issue is something different.  It’s possible that those posts that are missing may be due to the settings for your page.

Under “Edit Page”, look at the “Post Visibility” section on your managed permissions tab, look at the dropdown and make sure it says “allowed on page”.

You can also try using your page as admin, look right below the apps area where it says “Highlights”, click on it and choose “Posts by Others”.  * To view posts by others the checkbox needs to be checked on the “Post Visibility” section mentioned above.

  • Hi Nicole,
I understand what you’re saying but what’s the logic/algorithm in this?
Super important question if you ask me. What’s the value of having a million likes when no one knows what’s going on with you?

  • im worried about this  too….. for  example i like  seeing  my  fav  resturants   menu   each day but i dont  go  to their page…and  with these  discussiOns i  realize i dont see  them  so  much anymore…..   so  i guess  WE NEED TO  REMIND  OUR  FANS   THAT WE WILL FALL OFF THEIR PAGE IF THEY DONT DO SOMETHING….

i would like to see  every place i   liked….  if i  didnt want to see them i would unlike them….  i guess  facebook  doesnt  see it this  way…

@rolfski    i guess i will try an FYI  post on  my page….trying to say  if you want to  keep  getting our updates   please   like a post    or  comment  or  share us once in a while…thats how  facebook  decides if you see us…. HERES  WHAT I DID…WE WILL SEE IF IT   HELPS….  http://www.facebook.com/greenoakantiques  p.s.   its   right  below the pinned   picture of the  blue  cupboard….and i see   got  50  likes in the  first  hour…

  • @iamconsulting Thanks for the info! Highlighting “posts by others” gave me the info I wanted…

  • @reneestpeter

That’s great!  Glad I could help!

  • @rolfski

Sorry I missed your post!  I don’t usually follow topics because my inbox would be ridiculously full.  It would only be an educated guess as to the logic but I’m assuming it’s very similar to regular search engines.  They want to present information that is relevant to the user.  So if they haven’t engaged with your posts for some time, that could mean that you are not interested in the posts made by that company or person so the relevancy it has to your feed drops, leaving it open for new posts from friends or pages that you engage with on a more regular basis.

As far as algorithms go, you’d want to look at EdgeRank.  Here’s a post about EdgeRank from InsideFacebook.com that explains what is is and how it works- http://www.insidefacebook.com/2011/12/27/edgerank-and-graph-rank-defined/

Thanks for the info. Useful but still not very exact which worries me. Apparently there doesn’t appear much interest in this particular subject as I find it hard to get good info on.

Imo, this topic should be much higher on the list of every social marketeer. It appears now that most seem to be obsessed with increasing the numbers of likes on their FB page vs actually reaching your audience with your FB posts because they show up in peoples feed.

What’s the value of FB in your marketing strategy if all you accomplish is that people will only like your page and that’s it?

  • @annfurnivall
Thks for the tip, I did something similar at my page although not as pronounced as you did.
