What’s a Fan Page (11 posts)

  • Being in the business of selling Fan Pages. I often hear “whats a fan page” from clients. Does anyone else run into that?

Another question… how you call Fan Pages to your clients… Facebook Fan Page, Business Fan Page, Business Pages or another term work best?

  • Commonly I use the term “facebook business page”. Of course for those who do not know I give a detailed explanation of what a FB Business page is.

  • @dennischica I generally use the term Business Page or Brand Page, or simply Page (as opposed to a Profile).

  • Gotcha. Do you guys find that you often run across clients that have no idea what it is.

  • @dennischica I have found that those who have been using Facebook for a while personally already have a basic understanding of the business/fan pages. Those who rarely or are just beginning to use facebook need more explanation.

  • I’m confused over the difference between a “Group” page and a “Fan” page.  I can’t seem to find a clear distinction between the 2.

For a small biz with hard-core facebook followers, what would be advantages/disadvantages?

  • This may help you… they also have a chart. I did a quick glance and it seemed right. But use your best judgement.

  • @Dennis You are a true Treasure Hunter behind your hero cape!  You found exactly what I’ve been looking for.  I like your profile–I may be calling on you again.

    Thanks so much Dennis  :-)

  • @dennischica @yvetteleectsm @alexandrabriggs- I’m teaching a workshop on this very topic next week! The first thing I do is explain (and it usually takes a while for people to catch on) the difference between a personal profile and a page — which, as you likely know, Facebook calls an “Official Page.”

But “Official Page” sounds stuffy; most of us refer to Pages as “fan page, “business page,” or just plain “page.”  But I’ve discovered that when I call it a “page,” people get confused and think I’m talking about their personal profile, because most people call their personal profile a “page.”

So… in print I always refer to it as a fan/business page. Again, those of us who have used Facebook for a while got used to pages being called “fan pages” in the early days. Our brains default to thinking of them as “fan pages” even though you won’t see the word “fan” on them anymore.

    It’s all so confusing.

  • @laurachristianson @dennischica Thanks for the info.  This helps support what I was finding and clarifies the difference between the Groups and Fan/Pages.

  • @yvetteleectsm your very welcome. Always here to help if you need anything. Just let me know. :)
