What Tools Help You with Content Management (12 posts)

  • There are so many tools out there for social media today, and my favorite one wasn’t designed for social media, so I’d love to see what everyone else is doing.  Please include a description of how you use each tool and why you selected it.

  • I tend to work with clients to develop and manage content for their facebook pages.

I use Google Docs version of excel to maintain an editorial calendar that helps drive our topics and ideas for all of our platforms.  I love this because everyone is always looking at the most current version of the document, I don’t have to wonder if a client forgot to save the most recent version I sent them and has outdated information.

I also use Radian 6 to monitor conversations and guide our intuition on what our fan base is most interested in.  We feel like Radian 6 is a great program for listening, but also it’s great for reporting.  The most recent plug ins on the Insights pages have been very helpful to us as well.

Finally I use HootSuite to schedule posts for all different times of day once we have agreed upon the copy for each post.  In the mos basic form HootSuite is free and allows for some collaboration at $15 for additional team members.

  • Great question @christinamarie7 – love the idea of putting your editorial calendar into Google Docs and sharing it with the team.  I definitely could use more organization on this end.  I use Google Alerts, Google Reader and other tools to bring content in to me but don’t always have a good posting plan.  More of a general editorial calendar than a specific one.

  • I have been using Hootsuite for posting; great for multiple accounts.  I just also started using Sprout Social and really like it.  This platform has a lot of great functionality such as Google Analytics, Keyword tracking, and a reader (similar to Google Reader).  Nice basic reporting function, too.  I learned about a pretty cool online content calendar tool while attending Content Marketing World in September.  I have started to use Divvy for my company’s content calendar and will be trying this out with a couple of clients starting Jan 1.  It’s in beta, so no cost right now to check it out.

  • Andrea, I should take a page from your book too – LOL I really do need to get better at bringing content to me and not having to recreate the wheel every month when I try to plan out what needs to be talked about and what I might want to talk about.

Pamela, thanks for the cool tips, I can’t wait to check them out.

  • @christinamarie7 Now that I will be taking my blog more seriously, content management will help me to be more consistent.
@pamelamuldoon Thanks for the tips, I am taking a leaf out of your book.

  • I’m trying out involver for Content mgt Anyone uses this tool?how would u compare it with other freeware?

  • @christinamarie7 I agree Google Docs for marketing calendars is the best! I blog for clients and posting their internet marketing calendar in Google Docs has been a life saver. Now they can go to the marketing calendar and change the marketing emphasis for the week quickly. They can give me instructions, update specials and leave questions right on the marketing calendar. Most of my clients have just started their own businesses, so they are learning what topics work best in their marketing efforts and may need to change topics on a moments notice.

@pamelamuldoon I LOVE HootSuite! I use it so much for my shameless self promotion posts. Have you tried the new Hootlet tool bar tool? It lets you post from a webpage without opening HootSuite. So awesome and so quick!

  • @christinamarie7  Hi Christina  Cindy King ( @cindy-king ) published an article on SME  earlier this year reviewing some social media tools.  Perhaps this could help you.

22 Hot New Social Media Tools Worth Exploring

  • Love this exchange, but it seems to stray quite a bit from Facebook. Assuming, it’s FB we want to discuss, I want to plug a company called SocialStage(.com).

    I write for the company.

Their mission is to help you deliver content via FB and increase conversion. So, rather than send FB visitors to your site, you use Social Stage’s many app modules to transform your FB page INTO a site. Check it out. You can use it free and start with a simple module such as Welcome or Splash.

Those that have a blog can easily plug its feed into FB. Feel free to give us feedback on the service. And, if you want, learn more here:http://bit.ly/s2dNyR

  • @amyhallbiz I know of the new Hootlet tool bar, but have not yet tired it~you inspire me to do so!
Thanks to all for offering info and tips~very good stream of information.

    Pamela

  • @christinamarie7 I use BufferApp for Twitter, I subscribe to a number newsfeeds to help me keep abreast of the issues and to bookmark useful articles for newsletters etc, and I use networked blogs. Those are the main ones. On the website I use Shareaholic and Wibiya. For FB apps I am loving Shortstack at the moment. It loads faster than Pagemodo. I’m sure there’s a bunch of others but can’t think right now… must go to bed.
