what shows up in feed and conflicting data questions (7 posts)

  • Hi there, I’m glad to have found this forum. Have learned several new things in just 30 minutes reading it. I have a couple of questions maybe someone can help with.

I’ve noticed the changes in reach over the last month. It seems to have especially effected my non-photo posts. They just lie there like dead fish while the images still get good interaction. So I am using photos more and more.

Is there a way to get more eyeballs on the other types of posts? Is there something I can tell my fans that will keep us visible in their feeds if they want us there?

2nd question: yesterday I posted a link to a film trailer we were featured in. It now shows up twice on my page, one on each column of timeline – once with a tally of “95 people saw this”, and once with a tally of “980 people saw this”. Both have the correct time of 11 hours ago. Isn’t that weird? Why would that happen?

  • @truffulatuft  I am by no means an expert in this (although many on these forums are!), but I have seen people asking their fans to “like” and “comment” on their posts if they want them to continue to be seen in their news feeds.  This may help if your fans cooperate!  Good luck!

  • I’m guessing now that I must have accidently double posted that film trailer link.

  • jm, its  confusing  on my page too…..one  day i had  blanks  instead of pictures….

@kimkline , im  seeing that a lot too…the  wierd slant is  ….  you  would  be  talking to  the  small group   who  DO  get  your  feed already…not  the  big part that  now  dont see  you….i guess asking  for the like  DURING A PROMOTED POST     would  be   one   way  around  this…

.  kim, how are  you  reacting on  your page or   for  your  clients pages    to  this  big  change?   im  not seeing this  covered  well at all in the  social press, past that it happened………i  really dont know   the  best  way to deal with it….my  customers   want pictures  but if i put pictures on   my  views tank..so????…i need  facebook!!!!   it was  working  great for us..

..And..how  can  JMs  page  do  better with pictures..?.

  • @annfurnivall  I am truly surprised that some say posts WITH pics are not doing as well.  All I have ever read before has encouraged the use of pics to make your posts more noticeable and “shareable”.  In my personal experience, I still find posts with pics more effective.

As far as my personally, I did see a drop at first in the “sees” of my posts.  However, it has definitely leveled out and I am getting some great engagement (but I work hard to get this with posts I really think have great content and my blog has really helped).

I can see that Facebook is crucial for you Ann (and I love the pics you post on your merchandise).  I hope this all gets ironed out as I would not like to give up the work I have done on Facebook either!

    Good luck!

  • @JM You most likely accidentally double posted.  This happens when Facebook is going slow and you refresh or hit post multiple times because you thought it stalled.

I am assuming the second post was the one with higher views.  This is caused by post cannibalization.  Facebook will automatically make your last post more important and show that one in news feeds.  Every post has a lifespan, usually around 4 hours, so its important to spread out your posts so you don’t kill any.

Pictures are proving to be the best way to get your posts in the newsfeed.  Just think about how Facebook is used.  People scroll through their newsfeed and look at all the pictures, and if something attracts their attention, they read the post.  This leads to people engaging by normally liking the post, because it is the easiest thing to do.  Comments and Shares carry more weight in edgerank, so having a call to action to comment and/or share will help get into more newsfeeds.

They have changed a lot since feeling pressure from shareholders to find ways to bring in more money, and some have really hurt businesses, but i think they will figure it out.

  • @kimkline thanks fror  your  report     kim…

.i  cant understand  whats  going on  my  picture  reach  has   gone  down since  sept 21….  and  you know  how much i  depended on pictures…….  jenetta   mentioned it too, as well as  my   friend in town… …………

but  my organic  views  havent  really  changed..???..guess i  will  just   keep at it with my pictures  even tho  if  feels like  im  missing  about  500  people who used to see them…ikkk….guess its the new  reality!!
