What Can I Do To Improve My Facebook Pages? (22 posts)

  • I’ve only been managing Facebook pages for the past few months for some internships. I am just not generating the amount of Likes, Comments, and Shares as I was hoping for.

Please take a look at the following pages. Any input or advice would be awesome!

    Thanks,

    Tim

  • The pages look okay, although the therapy page should get a bit more color. Maybe change the cover photo? As for the posts I can’t tell you much, everything seems OK. Have you considered that this is a very specific niche? I mean, are there a lot of people who are interested in chiropractice or massage? Try to engage with the visitors, don’t just post, but also ask questions, call to action is important.

  • @tim-alwell  I think the pages both look very good.  I like the humor and variety of posting.  I think the profile picture on the Massage Therapy one is a bit too small to read.  Great recommendations from @kund-szovatai

Are there other groups (local networking groups, chambers, etc) that these two places participate in?  Are you posting and commenting on those pages?  Are most of the clients currently Fans?  Is there some advertising budget?  Could they run a contest?

I know Bloomington isn’t a giant city (I’m from near Chicago) but I would definitely think there is some room for growth here in these pages.

  • I also think asking for readers questions about therapy would help them engage more. Give them some free advice.

  • Facebook is a tough cookie… and it takes time to generate the type of interaction most people expect.

I think you’ve done an excellent job on both pages; everything is in place as it should be.  As for the design, colors, etc., you can always do some A/B split testing to see if changing one element grabs a little more attention than another.

The most difficult part is the engagement.  I don’t know why, but I also have concerns as to why people do not want to engage – no matter how many questions or CTA’s I’ve included.

As an example of engagement, why don’t members of this group, Social Media Examiner, engage with pages of other members, especially since this seems to be a frequent topic of this Club?  Since we are actively engaging here within this Club, I visited both your pages and LIKED both pages while I was there.  I placed your business pages in my ‘Health and Inspiration’ lists, and also liked your pages from my Facebook Page – so I can see when you add content I can share or engage in from my business page.

On some of the most popular (going by the # of Likes) Fbook pages, people seem to be drawn to posts others have commented on, and don’t seem to mind adding their two-cents.

One of the Pages you’ve recently LIKED has over 236,000 LIKES.  A review of that page shows almost every single post has two more comments.  I recommend engaging on that page whenever you can.  Make people want to click through to YOUR page because of your comments and interaction.  Then, make sure you have similar content on your page to get them to engage.

Another thing I noticed is you have many large photos on your page.  Something I’ve recently discovered is text only posts get further reach than posts with photos or links.  In my case (I’ve been experimenting over the past month) and the reach on my text only posts quadrupled (yes, 4X or higher) over posts with links or photos.

Just some food for thought here that you might wish to try out.  If you do, please pop back here and let us know what results you noticed.

  • This is my first visit to this club and I like what I read. I still have to create a page for my business on Facebook. What I have found is that sometimes you work hard to make something happen on Facebook and nothing happens. Then, unexpectedly, out of the blue your efforts pay off. Sometimes Facebook can be unpredictable, but it’s certainly good to be active there.

  • This link from Social Media Examiner might also be helpful.

@ron-ashworth – - that is so true!  UNPREDICTABLE!  What works today might not do nearly as well tomorrow!  Just keep plugging away and you will find what works for you AND your Page!

  • Thanks for the confirmation. I thought by just adding what I do and posting interesting things about myself would entice people to my page, but was disappointed by the response. Then one day I got an sms asking me to quote on designing a website. Now I have a client. The response came when I least expected it.

  • @melowout, it looks like i’m not alone in having a hard time getting fans to engage. I’ve done what you’ve done and what most social media experts advised but still couldn’t get my fans to engage. I just can’t help it but wonder if my fans are really the right type. So, I’m always scratching my head as to what have i not done or done wrongly. But when i looked at popular pages like SME, Mari Smith,Kim Garst to name just a few, their engagements are consistently very high and they’ve done practically what I’ve been taught to do. The same can be said for getting more likes too. This’s rather frustrating despite so much effort and time been put into building our pages.I do like your idea of the SME members to help and support each other by engaging in the other members’ pages in the true social spirit. It would be good to hear what other members have to say about this initiative.

  • Start here http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/improve-facebook-engagement/ to lead to a constant improvement

  • I think that every few days you should step out of your comfort zone and post something totally unrelated to what your page is about. For example – someone mentioned Kim Garst – take a look at her what she shares that is unrelated to social media:

    • Food
    • Fuzzy animals or toys
    • Kids
    • Familiar Cartoons Characters (see this Charlie Brown post – it was shared 189 times)

    I also like to share:

    • Amazing architecture and landscapes
    • Engineering discoveries

Another one that always seems to work try using this site:

    • Someecards.com

Of course you don’t want to go over board with this but pick one or two of these suggestions and right after you get a few likes or comments, post something that IS related to your page and see if that works.

    Hope that helps!

  • Tim,I by no means am an expert at this but here’s what seems to be working for me… On my personal page I have buildt up aprox 1400 friends and often leave comments about their posts. Doing this is building a relationship between us. Then I will also share my business posts on my personal page usually about 6 hours after I post it on my business page. After my new friends on my personal page have viewed my business postings there I believe they begin to feel some how connected to me. From there I will send them a request to like my business page. I have had very good results with this approach. Each time I am accepted as a new friend I always take the time to thank them and chat a bit as well. On both of my face book pages I always mix up my content and reply back to their comments. View the business on Facebook at Uniquely Yours Caterng. Give it a like and follow along with me if you desire! Best wishes,Andy

  • @Kund Szovátai Yes, it is a very specific niche. Thank you for pointing that out, I didn’t think of it like that. I agree, I need to post more questions to foster discussion. Thank you for the input!
@Andrea Vahl Great advice! Posting on other popular pages within the Bloomington community is something I have not been doing! I will certainly implement this strategy. I already have a few pages in mind that I would like to be more active on :)
@Melodie Licht  thank you for sharing that link! You have my creative juices flowing!
Thank you all for sharing your ideas and tips! This discussion has been super helpful.

  • All of these are great suggestions. I would also recommend changing your cover photos and profile photos often, maybe bi-weekly, to keep your page fresh and updated, and give people something new to look at.

  • I can’t add anything different to this discussion. Only want to say that I find the tips useful. Sometimes we try too hard to make something work. When we relax and allow our creativity to flow, something good happens.

  • Hi all, just began my new business as a Hairstylist…

Any advice for the content of my new business Facebook page?

    Regards Austin.

  • Hi all, we are basically involved in development (Facebook games, Facebook applications and Mobile apps). Do you think custom apps give a FB page a twist? Why few small and medium sized brand go for a custom fb app? … low budgets? few ideas?Best regards! Riccardo

  • Hello! My name is Mary-Jo Salzburg and I am VP of Marketing at Member Insurance Agency in Barrington, IL.  We’ve had a FB page for several months now, but would love someone to critique and share ideas.  We use the page to share loss control tips and insurance news, but would appreciate ideas on how to change it up a bit and increase readership.  Thank you!

  • Hello @Tim-alwell
In your case I would say: try to make from your facebook pages a hub for your fans and followers, that meaning, provide them advise, tips and ideas for relaxing. Stress is a BIG problem for plenty of people. Address that problem the right way with useful information. Ask questions and try to understand what problems do they have in common. Use more visual content to communicate the need of relaxing. Use images with quotes from popular gurus.
Use events to promote special occasions taking place at your business.Define your slogan as a hashtag (yes even to use on Facebook). That transmits your business nature and users can identify with it. Insert #RevealYourTrueEssence on your cover photo. Use it on updates when it suits.
    Hope those tips help you!Best.Max.

  • @MJ Salzburg – stop trying to sell insurance – (no one really wants to talk about insurance except other insurance people) Start entertaining – maybe weird insurance claims?? http://goo.gl/6Z5Cr or http://goo.gl/oS7Q2
Big images silly stories and links that point back to your agency – I see 3 guys wearing ties – I’m outta here cause they ain’t no fun :-)
Use this image and link: http://goo.gl/N7P56 with this post: Tip of the day:Use a powered in-feed conveyor to help cashiers bring the items to their best work zone, rather than leaning and reaching to get items…

  • @ofarm  “Why few small and medium sized brand go for a custom fb app? … low budgets? few ideas?”

Welllll, …I’d love to hear more about aps, how they work, what they are supposed to do, etc.  There are soooo many out there – I just don’t have time to explore each of them so I just stay away.  I don’t even know what a ‘custom FaceBook app’ would be.

If I could see ideas, tips, start to finish type of information on your page (even linking to a post on your website.)

I’d also like to see a little more explained in the About Description of what your business does, specifically for people like me, small business, etc.  I would love to bounce ideas, see where others started and what they wound up with, etc.  Give it to me on your page and for sure I will be there!

@richardmclaughlin   I took a moment to review that link again, thanks for posting it.  Of the 5 tips shared I’ve done/doing all of them.  I’ve been a little lax on the posting schedule so will pay better attention to it as well as not posting while another post is live!   Definitely helps to review the ‘helper’ information again as you move along with your development.
