What are you charging? (17 posts)

  • What are you charging?  I am going to add a custom FB app with pricing and would like to know what other people are doing to promote their similar services.

Since I am new at creating products like this, I could really use your suggestions. What are you offering and how much are you charging?

Do you have a basic set up package?  What does it include?

What are you providing for those who want more customization?  I see people selling Welcome pages from the basic (just words basically and a simple graphic) from $49 to the $250 version with all the bells and whistles (custom graphic, opt in, video and more…)

Or what about custom apps?  For example a tab/app where people can list what they have to offer and their pricing structures?

Of course, shopping carts are popular.  They are also a little tricky to set up.  What are you charging for them, and have you found one that is easy to use?

    Contest Apps.

What am I leaving out that people are looking for?

Also, are you adding consulting to any of your packages, or are they a seperate service?  What are you charging?

Would love to how you are presenting what you are offering.  Would you mind sharing the links so I can see them?  If you do not want to share them here, please send me a message.

    Thank you so much.

  • I think that’s a tough question, @randithompson because there are so many variables (and not everyone wants to share their rates :)  I share mine on my Coaching page so I don’t mind sharing them here.  I think there is another thread on this but I couldn’t find it.  But I charge $150 for a 45 minute session.  Some times I do custom tabs and pages but I’m not a designer so I’ve gotten away from that.
I know people charge a big range of rates.  I’ve seen $250 for a custom app and then it also depends on what the app is and how it’s installed – are you building it from scratch and are graphics included?

What I’ve done is just go and google “social media consultant packages” and other similar variations and then you can see some rates that people are charging and how they structure it.  Hope that helps!!

  • Thank you @andrea-vahl

I have been going through the posts here and have learned so much.  This was one of the best links that I saw, http://bundlepost.wordpress.com/2012/01/03/important-elements-of-an-agency-social-media-proposal-part-1-of-5-the-meeting/  It is a four part series that includes: the client meeting, the committment, pricing and terms to address, and a social media proposal template.

As to what to offer.  Since this is new to me (social media world) I am not sure what people are really looking for and so I thought I would ask here where there are so many who do this.

I would outsource and graphics and writing that needs to be done. But am now sure of the going rates or packages that people might be sharing.

Now I have a new search time to look up.  Would not have thought about “social media consultant packages”  I have tried other variations that are not bringing up much.  It surprises me how many people do not share what they are changing out there.

I see that people are shy about sharing their rates and packages that they offer.  Not sure why that would be. I have always posted my prices. For potentail clients, it sorts out the lookers from those who are serious and in the end saves me time. I do not care if my competitors see my prices.

  • This was another interesting article about pricing and packages. I also found this in the SME Club archieves.

  • @randithompson @andrea-vahl Thank you for posting. I had similar questions and appreciate the resources. Randi, good luck w/the expansion! :)

  • @cjrivard Thank you.  I know many people are curious.    It would be great if other people would add what their rates or, or if they also have links that show us what other people are charging for different services. Of course, I need to make sure that we are allowed to share those links here.  I have gathered a few…..

    Randi

  • @andrea-vahl   Are we allowed to share links here?  I have been looking around and found people who are showing their prices.  Can they be shared in the FB Club Forum as examples?

    Randi

  • I think that would be great, @randithompson – there are probably a lot of people wondering the same thing.

  • Thanks @Randi Thompson for sharing you questions and the resource links.

I personally like the idea of establishing a marketing campaign package and pricing it based on the value to the business.

ie if you run a campaign for a company who has an average sale per unit of say $1000 and you run a marketing campaign over a period of 1 month and that campaign brings them in 100 new leads on their list and 10 new sales, then how much is your service worth?

So instead of packaging your offering as a service to set up a Facebook Page with nice graphics and a tab app for $200 – $500, instead run a marketing campaign for say a contest to attract new leads and customers for your client and charge them $2000 plus a monthly fee to pay for your licensing fees of the app.

Your value to that business is worth a lot more then :-)

  • btw @RandiThompson I love the graphics on your horse page ;-)   Just liked it and saved it to my special list!

I am personally graphically challenged ;-)

  • @andrea-vahl Great.  Here are some of the links.

  • @shanejohnston  That is a great suggestion!  I think many of us might be working with small business owners and so are thinking more on that level.  Of course, after doing the research I have been doing.  I may need to rethink that….    The average small business owner will not be able to pay as much as a company or corperation.  Do you cater more to the larger companies?

Thank you as to the graphics.  I do not do them.  I feel that for the right presentations that we need to use professionals.  It saves us time and $$$.  We have won several awards and mentions in social media because of the one I use.  She charges (so everyone knows) $75.  We change our covers almost every month and she is working on a new one now.   Her name is Carolynne Smith of Pixel Graphix Design You can see some of her work in the photo albums on that page.  And yes, her prices are too low…  :)

  • @RandiThompson I work mainly with smaller companies but I do tend to contract mostly with the type that have a higher per transaction price.  Realtors, Chef’s, Artist, Contractors & Service companies.

I try to target the business’ that are already doing some advertising because you know they have budgeted for it then.  A typical ad here in our local newspaper is between $1000 -$4000 and it’s one-&-done advertising.  If a business can afford that then they usually love an online campaign that establishes a longer lasting digital footprint.

Thank you for the graphics contact …I appreciate it :-)

  • I really need to learn to do this.  I help people for free and spend hours at a time with them.

  • I hear ya @kimolive ;-)   I do still help people for free at times too …and it doesn’t always go well either.  I try to do it only for people who really need some extra help or a not-for-profit or charity, but even when you are doing something for free they quickly forget that and soon the expectations grow higher than you want them to plus the committee’s of people in charge drive you crazy.

I have just recently learned through a bad experience of doing something for free, that even though I’m doing it for free, I still need to get them to sign a contract so they have an appreciation of the price that would normally be charged to them, plus a good outline of the scope of work you’re willing to do and also exactly what you need them to do as well.

Best of luck with your entrepreneurial efforts!  & don’t do it all for free …decide first what your reason will be to do the free ones and then you never need to compromise.

  • @shanejohnston
I have a successful facebook page, but I really don’t know the technical skills that go along with social marketing.  I need training. check out my page, if you don’t mind, http://www.facebook.com/fortbenningareaguide

I guess I don’t think I am good enough even though someone was doing a workshop at a local college on social media & they laughed at me for going, they said I should be teaching the class.

I just feel like I was blessed with picking the right name & perfect timing.

I agree with you on contracts.  I have learned the hard way with advertising & partnering up with someone and them not wanting to do any work.

  • Hi @kimolive

Obviously you know what you’re doing Kim!  Your Fanpage has great engagement. All you have to do now is spread your wings and fly ;-)

There is no reason in the world you should not be charging for your services to do this type of work for another business.

Keep in touch & let me know how it goes.  I may know a bit about consulting and contracts but you’re way better at this Social Media stuff than me!
