  • Hello All:

Can anyone tell me how can I create a fb tab for my fan page and bring a whole website on it.  I have see it done but dont know how.

Maybe with a html code instruction that i can just copy and paste?

  • @carlosdixon talk to Jim at http://www.likeourbusiness.com or Tim Ware at http://www.hyperarts.com.

    Very nice people.

You won’t need any code with their products.

    Hope that helps.

  • I would just download any of the apps that allow you to create a Facebook tab with custom HTML code and then display the website using an iframe.

One recommendation for the app is Static HTML (Google it). Go to the website of W3C and look up how to code iframes (super, super simple).

One word of caution: make sure that the website that you want to display in the iframe has dimensions that won’t look super weird when loaded in Facebook. I BELIEVE that the max width is 720px, but it might be closer to 500px now. It’ll still load, but you want to avoid having a bunch of scroll bars for usability reasons.

Good luck, and don’t hesitate to ask if you have any more questions.

  • Max width is 520pixels. I have created mini-websites which are added with the Facebook developer app. What I learned is if you create a series of little pages and hyperlink them together (which is basically a website), you can have the added bonus of each one having a unique Facebook URL if you add each page with the developer app. That makes each page track able through insights as well as google analytics. Not as easy as using a free app but total control.

  • @carlosdixon Are you sure you want to bring a whole website into your Facebook Fan Page? Facebook has different purposes than an entire website and it might be over powering… I know I don’t know your goals or your strategy, but this is just my initial thoughts.
I love the different tabs, and you can definitely do something interesting there, and engaging! One thing I always like to remember is to determine which platform (website, blog, Facebook) is my “home-base” and then to use the other platforms, their goal being to bring people over to my home-base. It all goes with the strategy as a whole…
As for what to use, iFrames are really great, because you can host the pages and content yourself, and you have complete flexibility with them…
Good luck with your project either way!

  • Any iFrame application that supports HTML can bring a website into Facebook, @carlosdixon  as @lukaspleva said.  But they key is your website would have to be 520 pixels across for it to show properly.  I don’t think it makes sense to have your whole website there.  I think you can bring in some interactive pieces to make your Page fun but people don’t want a small version of your website.

  • lujure and fanpageengine.

  • You have to create an app to wrap around your content. For some clients I’ve created Wordpress installs that they can edit and the theme is set to fit within a Facebook Page. For others it’s just a mini-site dedicated to Facebook. It can be in HTML but you must use a PHP fileCreating a Facebook app isn’t hard at all. Here’s a tutorial on creating an iFrame Facebook page with info on how to do the app too.Once you’ve done it you’ll be able to create apps in under 30 minutes easy!

  • I use StaticHTML for my company and we have a condenced version of our site.

  • @carlosdixon simply use static iframe tab, go to url box, insert your web url and you’re done! let me know if you need further assitance.

  • Thanks for your reply.  I wont used any branded app nor pay site anymore.  I want to learn how to do it like Janet and Michelle suggested.  I started watching video about it already.   This is a great tool for a fb novice like me to learn and for experts worldwide to help and at the same time promote themselves @andreavahl

That is a great suit of apps @Moinshaikh.  I dream of offering similar apps like those within Woobox in the future but under my brand.

    Cheers

  • Where did you find the video  @carlosdixon – is there a link you can share?

  • Every one here its a social media expert of some sort and I have found facebook your expertise super helpful.

    Cheers

  • Thanks Carlos – always looking for information. @carlosdixon.

  • Thanks Carlos! @carlosdixon We try hard to make those tutorials useful.

  • I just watched a Lujure Webinar on this exact thing.  With their tab creator, you can actually put your entire website into the tab by only using the home page (or whatever page you want) link.

    Check them out… http://www.lujure.com

  • @carlos, i just literally launched a fan page about my fan page service. it’s been an education to be sure! (here’s the link: http://www.facebook.com/fantasticcustomfanpages)

social media examiner actually as a big help to me with this article: http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/top-10-facebook-apps-for-building-custom-pages-tabs/i went to each site, tried each one out and finally used Static HTML. i got the tab app for free, but i did work with a web designer friend to create the links to my website (in my tip bubbles) so i know coding is a must. i haven’t tried some of the self-serve sites mentioned above yet because i wanted more control over the graphics etc. post your page once you’ve got yours figured out!

  • NOTE:  Your pages must be hosted on a server that holds a security certificate if you want them to show to people who are viewing facebook through their secure server (https instead of http).  Just a tidbit for your thoughts on the matter.
